March Madness Picks Sunday March 27, 2022

Miami vs. Kansas, 2:20PM ET

Pick by The Degenerates

Today we are focusing on the matchup between the Miami Hurricanes and Kansas Jayhawks, where we have Miami covering 6.5 points. Sharp money has brought this line down from 7, and we wouldn't be surprised for it to drop a bit lower. Miami has covered the spread in all three tournament games by an average of 13 points and are an impressive 10-1-1 ATS as an underdog of 7 points or less.

With 15 seed Saint Peters advancing to the Elite Eight yesterday they’ve deservingly stolen the Cinderella spotlight, but this dangerous Miami Hurricanes squad has quietly put together an impressive run. Miami came into the tournament finishing 4th in the ACC at 26-10 and have been one of our most profitable teams to bet on all season long.

The Hurricanes have been playing excellent basketball the last two weeks knocking off USC, 2 seed Auburn, and Iowa State to advance this far in the tournament. Let’s not forget Miami also played Duke tight right down to the end in the ACC semifinals matchup. Kansas hasn’t been able to say the same as they’ve had an easier path so far, beating Texas Southern, Creighton and Providence.

We are once again expecting Miami guards Kameron McGusty and Isaiah Wong to be the key in this game. Both players have a unique skill set that presents matchup problems for almost any team in the country. Kansas will be faced with these same problems and will find it difficult to shut both of them down. The Jayhawks may end up winning this game, but we love Miami to keep it close until the final buzzer.

PICK: Miami +5.5 (-110)

Miami vs. Kansas, 2:20PM ET

Pick by Greg Waddell (Sleepers)

Miami’s shocking run to the elite 8 has included a string of games where they found ways to hold opposing offenses under 70 points - none of USC, Auburn or Iowa State could eclipse that number.  On the other side, Kansas is coming off a 66-61 rock fight win against Providence.

I don’t see either team’s offense in a place where they’re ready to go out and torch the nets.  Only one of the combined six NCAA Tournament games involving one of these two teams has hit that number (Kansas vs. Creighton).  Add in a few nerves from either side (or both) with a Final Four on the line?  We’ll take the under.

PICK: Total points UNDER 146.5 (-110)

DimersBOT probability: 51%

St Peter's vs. UNC, 5:05PM ET

Pick by Prospector Sam

“The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry” - Robert Burns

Aside from showing you all that I’m a learned scholar (aka pretentious asshole) with that quote, I’m starting with it because it’s a theme that rings true in gambling. Some days it doesn’t matter how smart you are or how good your analysis is, certain results just defy logic. I’ve been fading St. Peter’s heavily for the last two rounds on double digit spreads, recognizing the mismatches they’re facing and the roadblocks that should stop them from being competitive, but nothing deters them. Even crazier, they’ve been handed a variety of matchups, from a blue blood with top recruiting talent to a mid major with incredible team play to a team gifted with multiple 7 footers, and they’ve found a way to solve the puzzle every time. Basically, throw out the book for St Peters at this point and appreciate/gamble on who they are RIGHT NOW.

Who are they? A team with an endless motor that doesnt turn the ball over very much and causes problems for teams on the defensive end. And while the mismatch is once again massive against UNC, they’re facing a team who’s also overperforming and is just as liable to regress. The Tar Heels pulled off an impressive win over UCLA because Caleb Love turned into Steph Curry in the second half, but this team hasn’t found consistency all season and they’re too reliant on the 3 ball right now. St Peter’s will run them off the line and force UNC to beat them down low, where they have genuine defensive talent. Basically, this may be the best matchup the Peacocks have had all tournament.

The world is rooting for St. Peter’s at this point, and it’s hard not to get sucked into it from a gambling standpoint. But I’ve seen enough from them to believe they can cover this 8 point spread, and I’ll gladly take the extra points in this game. Let’s see if they can pull off another miracle.

PICK: St Peter's +8 (-110)
