How to read our college basketball parlays

Every leg in our NCAAB parlay picks shows the bet, the game it comes from, and three numbers:

• Sportsbook price: The leg's odds at the sportsbook shown.
• Probability: Our model's chance that the leg wins, from our machine learning projections rather than the odds.
• Edge score: How +EV the leg is against its line. A leg is +EV (positive expected value) when our probability is higher than the price implies.

The ticket shows the combined odds and the potential payout for your stake. Our probability and edge score stay with each leg, so for the ticket's chance, multiply the legs: three at 60% make a 21.6% ticket, which loses almost four times in five even when every leg carries an edge.

How to build a college basketball parlay

How our model builds college basketball parlays

Our college basketball model is a machine learning model that predicts each team's final score. The moneyline, spread, and total probabilities behind every leg come from comparing those predicted scores with the market lines and college basketball's historical scoring distributions.

It reads five inputs: 

• Offensive and defensive efficiency: Recent games and longer-term performance help establish each team’s scoring ability and defensive strength.
• Opponent: The opposing team’s strengths and weaknesses help shape the expected outcome.
• Home or away: Home-court advantage and away-game performance factor into the projection.
• Venue: Court conditions, pace, and typical scoring help inform the expected game environment.
• Neutral-site adjustments: Neutral courts are treated separately from home and away games, which is particularly important for early-season tournaments in November.

Every leg is one of our model's picks, and the risk setting decides how the ticket trades win probability against payout. Because every leg starts from a projected final score, an NCAA basketball parlay from our Parlay Picker doesn’t include player props.

How college basketball parlays work

A college basketball parlay combines two or more bets into one ticket. Each bet is a leg, and every leg must win for the ticket to pay. One miss loses the whole ticket, however many legs land.

The chances multiply. Every leg in our parlays comes from a different game, so one leg's result doesn't change another's, and the ticket's chance is the leg probabilities multiplied together. The prices multiply the same way. Three legs at -110 combine to about +596, which breaks even at 14.4%, or 52.4% per leg, the same bar each leg faces as a single bet.

That cuts both ways. Four legs we rate at 55%, each at -110, make a 9.2% ticket priced to break even at 7.5%. The ticket is +EV, but it still loses about nine times out of ten.

Parlays have higher odds because they’re hard to win by design. It’s important to keep this in mind when assessing your winning chances and managing your bankroll.

College basketball parlay strategy

Parlays are fun, they can reap rewards, and it’s wise to approach them with a plan. 

Here are some tips that can help you build a slip with confidence:

• Count the legs: A leg at -110 is priced to land about half the time, so each one you add roughly halves the ticket's chance.
• Check the price on every leg: The same leg at -110 and at -130 isn't the same bet, and the gap compounds across the ticket. Our college basketball odds show where each leg is priced best.
• Weigh what a big favorite adds: A -1000 moneyline leg raises the payout by 10%, and it still has to win. November's mismatches are full of those prices.
• Judge each leg on its own price: A sixth leg can turn +1500 into nearly +3000, and it's one more game that has to go your way. If that leg wouldn't stand as a single bet, the bigger number doesn't change it.
