Bonus Offer – Spend $10, get 25 FREE Onyx Cash

A sportsbook’s welcome bonus can be a make-or-break for most readers, so I’ll kick off my Onyx Odds review with the signup deal. As more players warm up to social betting, operators tend to offer exciting bonuses to stand out from the competition. Well, that and the fact that sweepstakes sportsbooks are legally required to give players virtual tokens to explore the site for free.
Upon signing up with Onyx Odds and logging in, I immediately found my balance loaded with 1,000 Onyx Coins. These coins allow you to back your favorite teams for fun and gain in-game status in the process. Admittedly, it’s not a lot of coins, but still enough to give you a taste of the sportsbook and its offerings for free. You can make your picks on a decent number of sporting events and get an appreciation of how the site works.
A first purchase bonus is also up for grabs, consisting of 25 FREE Onyx Cash when you spend $10 on Onyx Coins. Of course, no purchase is necessary on the site, and you can make sports picks for free, however the option to boost your virtual balance is available if needed.

Usability, Look & Feel – Practical and easy to navigate

I’ll quickly mention that you can only access Onyx on mobile browsers. Finding your way around the mobile site is simple. Onyx Odds decided to go with a streamlined and intuitive design, eliminating clutter.
The signup process was quick, and once I was logged in, I could choose between using Onyx Cash or Onyx Coins to place picks. You’re led through a mini tutorial of sorts on how the site works before you’re directed to your Account page. Here, you’ll find your wallet balance, along with the Purchase and Redeem option.
Besides the Accounts page, you’ll find quick links to the Home Page and My Bets section. The Home Page is where all the sports betting action starts and contains a full list of sporting events to choose from. Pages load with a single click. I must say I found the overall dark background and purple and white print quite catchy.
App / Mobile Site – Mobile gaming only

Few social sportsbooks offer a downloadable app, but Onyx Odds seems to have bucked this trend. The app isn’t available on the Google Play Store or the App Store but is downloadable straight from the brand’s main page. In fact, as soon as you log in, you’re prompted to download it right away.
It’s not a must though because the browser-based version of the site does the job of facilitating convenient betting on the go. You can place betting picks, make in-app purchases, redeem Onyx Cash, browse your transaction history, and contact the support team, all from an Android or iOS device.

Payments – 20 Onyx Cash minimum redemption amount

While putting together my Onyx Odds review, I noted that Onxy Coin purchases happen via ACH direct bank transfer and popular debit/credit cards. Currently, the brand supports Visa, Amex, Mastercard and Discover, as well as Apple Pay, and Skrill. All Onxy Coin purchases hit your account right away, and you have to wait a few days for prize redemptions.
At the moment, Onyx Odds processes Onxy Cash redemptions through an ACH bank connection. But before you can redeem your Onyx Cash for real money prizes, you must have played them through once. The minimum amount you can redeem here is only 20, which is a fifth of what most social sites impose.
Customer Service – Email support
4.5
/5.0
My Onyx Odds review found only one way to contact the support team, and that’s via email. I’ll admit I was quite bummed not to see a live chat, which I consider the easiest way to communicate with a social sportsbook.
Nonetheless, I found it relatively easy to access email support on the mobile site. Head over to your Accounts page, scroll down to General, and click "Contact Us". The moment you do that, your email opens up with the Onyx Odds email address already entered. You then just need to draft your message and hit send. The team responds in a few hours, so no waiting around for answers.
The homepage does include some helpful FAQ's, but I'd love to see a comprehensive help center and live chat introduced in time.

License & Security – Onyx Odds is legit
4.4
/5.0
I always like to tackle the question of brand legitimacy for any sweepstakes site I check out, and my Onyx Odds review is no different. The sportsbook doesn’t hold a gaming license, which isn’t unusual for a sweepstakes site. It’s not mandatory to have one.
But I did find that Onyx adheres to sweepstakes rules by making it possible for players to enjoy the site and its offerings without making a purchase. The social bookie also has a detailed privacy policy that addresses issues like how it handles data you share on the site. Onyx Odds is all for responsible social gaming, and also has security protocols in places to help protect players data, which is reassuring.
Rewards & Loyalty Program – Accumulate loyalty points as you bet
4.3
/5.0
Writing my Onyx Odds review, I found the sportsbook has a loyalty program to appreciate repeat players. Every time you place bets, you pick up loyalty points. The more points you get, the more you increase your chances of reaching Onyx VIP status.
It’s here where you start unlocking exciting perks, from exclusive offers to more free coins. It’s not an invitation-based VIP program, so whether you make the cut or not is really in your control, however, the more you bet the more likely it is to attain VIP status.
Onyx Odds calls itself America’s Premium Social Sportsbook, and looking at the range of sports, I’m inclined to see why. It may not have the longest list, but it covers most American leagues like your NFL, NBA, NCAAF, NCAAB, and NHL. Onyx Odds adds UFC for its niche sports enthusiasts. The betting process is similar to that of a conventional bookie, save for the fact that you place social bets using virtual currencies instead of real money. You pick a sporting event based on your preferred odds. I was able to place all sorts of bets, from moneylines to parlays.
For now, I didn’t find any social betting community platform linked to the sportsbook, except the socials. Players can’t take part in any peer-to-peer betting or compete in leaderboard competitions or challenges as yet. While the bookie sets that up, you can visit the operator’s Facebook and Instagram pages in the meantime. I was able to interact with like-minded social players on the page and compare notes.
You use Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash to place social bets at this sweepstakes sportsbook. Onyx Coins is the virtual currency for fun betting with no opportunity to redeem prizes. You have an option to purchase more Onyx Coins, and packages range from $10 to $500. The first purchase promotion currently priced at $10 gets you 10,000 Onyx Coins and 25 free Onyx Cash as a bonus. As I said, redeeming real prizes is possible when you bet with Onyx Cash. At 20 Onyx Cash, the bookie has one of the lowest minimum redemption limits in the industry. Just be sure to play through your Onyx Cash once and use a payment method with a name that matches what’s on the account.
My Onyx Odds review can confirm that this sportsbook provides players with a safe space to place social bets for free. When you sign up, you’re greeted with free coins to place picks on sporting events. It would be great to see more sports added, but I quite like how the bookie at least covers the major leagues and UFC.
