For TCG card rips, OpenThatPack does things differently - it lets you rip digital versions of actual Pokemon, One Piece, Riftbound, and MTG booster packs and then get the cards shipped home if you want them.
As you’ll see from my OpenThatPack review, this includes the hugely popular Pokemon 30th Celebration booster packs which I was able to get here for just $9.00. It’s not just the packs though, I was also impressed with how easy the site is to use, plus their rewards scheme - read on to learn more!
Before we get into any of the features of this OpenThatPack review, you need to understand how the site works. It’s not a traditional card rip site where you buy packs and get a random card from a pool of graded cards.
Instead, OpenThatPack lets you open the digital versions of actual TCG booster packs. So, for example, I bought a lot of the Pokémon 30th Celebration packs from them. For each pack I opened, I was given the same number of cards, the same rates, and the same card pool as if I was buying the physical pack. The only difference is that it’s digital.
Then, whatever I digitally pulled, I could get a physical version of those cards delivered to an address of my choice! I love this premise as it means you only keep what you want to collect. Plus, I’ve found that most of the time at OpenThatPack, they are selling packs below the market price that you can get either from shops or sites like eBay.
Inevitably, I pulled plenty of cards that I wasn't interested in collecting. Fortunately, OpenThatPack has a buyback system for eligible cards. After opening a pack, the cards are added to your inventory. You can then review the site's buyback offers and decide whether to keep or sell individual cards.
One important distinction is that OpenThatPack buybacks are paid in site credits rather than withdrawable cash. You can use these credits to purchase additional packs, but you cannot ordinarily withdraw them to your bank account or payment method.
The site calculates its own buyback prices, which may differ from the prices you'd find on marketplaces such as eBay or TCGplayer. I compared several offers during my review and found some reasonable valuations, although I'd still recommend checking independent market prices before selling anything valuable.
As soon as I opened the pack page and I saw the Pokémon 30th Celebration packs, I knew this OpenThatPack review was going to be good. This is currently one of the most popular Pokemon sets available and you can barely get booster packs online for less than $15. OpenThatPack has them for $9!
It’s not just the 30th Celebration packs, though. I found a ton of other popular Pokémon booster packs from various current sets such as:
You’ve essentially got all of the modern sets, but the main downside is that there are no vintage booster packs. So, don’t be expecting any 1999 1st Edition cards here!
For each Pokémon booster pack, you can see the full set contents, plus the odds of pulling the different rarity tiers. The booster packs come with everything too, including the energy card and the Pokémon Online code, so you can scan the booster pack and add the cards to your collection.
While Pokemon was the main draw for me, I also checked out the other OpenThatPack rips, which include:
As with the Pokemon packs, these are all official booster packs, and I like that they showcase the proper pack artwork. Plus, you can see previews of the different cards if you click on their thumbnails. I’ve listed some of the popular packs in the table below table
| Booster Pack | Brand | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Aetherdrift | MTG | $16.00 |
| Assassin’s Creed | MTG | $27.00 |
| Outlaws of Thunder Junction | MTG | $23.00 |
| The Time of Battle | One Piece | $8.00 |
| Adventure on Kamis Island | One Piece | $7.00 |
| Legacy of the Master | One Piece | $7.00 |
| Two Legends | One Piece | $7.00 |
| Vendetta | Riftbound | $6.00 |
| Unleashed | Riftbound | $5.00 |
Once I’d checked out all the rips, I wanted to look at the usability for this OpenThatPack review. It’s website-only, I’m afraid, and as of yet, I’ve not seen any sign of an OpenThatPack app.
I wasn’t bothered, though, as I think they’ve done great with the website. In all honesty, there’s not much to it. On the homepage, you get a cool reel showing the live TCG pack pulls. Plus previews of the main packs.
After that, I just had to use the navigation at the top - Packs, Hits, and Trade- to get to the different features. Account management is similarly easy - just click on your icon in the top right, and you can see everything like your balance, card inventory, and rewards level.
The pack opening animations themselves are ok, but they aren’t especially flashy. I do like that if you pull a particularly rare card that there’s more of a buildup and a reveal though - that was pretty cool.
For the OpenThatPack rips, you do not purchase the packs directly. Instead, you have to deposit funds into your account balance first. It’s a simple enough process and I was able to add funds into my account with a few clicks.
Current supported payment methods that I saw included:
I only made deposits using Visa, and I got a simple pop-up box where I had to enter my payment info. Depending on the method you use, it will also allow payment security if you have it enabled on your bank account.
Manual withdrawals are not available though, so please bear this in mind. Instead, you have to email the OpenThatPack support team and they will refund any excess funds you have in your account. I’m not a fan of this. I did it a couple of times and I always got the money, but still, I think there should be a manual option.

So, is OpenThatPack legit? The payments went some way to providing that, but what made it clear was their support and security:
OpenThatPack offers email support, plus a live chat. Other OpenThatPack reviews commented on the slow email response times. I didn’t have this same experience. Instead, for the two emails I sent with withdrawal queries, I got replies back within 1-2 hours. I thought this was great and it’s much faster than other sites offering card rips and sports card breaks I’ve tested.
Still, the live chat is what you want to use. This is even faster! Just click the icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the site and you’ll open the FAQ/live chat. Next, click on the messages tab and you’ll be able to speak to a support rep. I tested this 3x, and each time someone got back to me within 1-3 minutes max.
For example, I spoke to a guy named Mike about how withdrawals work. He replied in 1 minute and explained to me the email process that I mentioned above clearly.
OpenThatPack security also gave me increased confidence in the brand. Instead of a sign up process, they use a one-step login process. So, each time I wanted to check out the OpenThatPack packs, I just had to click the “One Step Login” button in the top-right, and use my Google account details.
As I stated earlier though, you can enable 2FA on your account. I immediately did this as an extra layer of protection. On top of the security, I noticed they had documents on how the pack opening works, fairness and quality disclosures, and full shipping guides. Plus, there were terms and conditions, and full odds/card lists for each of the packs they sell.

One area where I felt my OpenThatPack review fell short was the promotions. I guess there had to be some downside though because of how epic the rest of the experience is.
When I signed up here to start buying OpenThatPack packs, I did not get a welcome bonus. This was a bummer, and it would have been nice to get something like a deposit bonus or a bonus pack. This is certainly something OpenThatPack needs to work on in the future.
However, as I said in my OpenThatPack promo code guide, there is a rewards scheme. It’s pretty simple, but it has two features:
These are on a percentage basis and they scale with your rewards level. For example, the cashback bonus tiers are as follows:
| Rewards Level | Cashback % |
|---|---|
| 1-9 | 0% |
| 10-19 | 1% |
| 20-29 | 2% |
| 30-39 | 2.5% |
| 40-49 | 3% |
| 50-59 | 4% |
| 60-69 | 4.5% |
| 70-79 | 5% |
| 80-89 | 6% |
| 90-99 | 7% |
| 100 | 8% |
During my time on this OpenThatPack review, I got to Reward Tier 12, so I started getting a 1% cashback bonus on all purchases, plus a 1% sellback bonus on any cards I didn’t want to keep.
I ain’t gonna lie, throughout the course of making this OpenThatPack review, I spent a lot of money on the Pokémon 30th Celebration packs! I think that’s part of the draw, though. It’s just incredibly convenient, and you can target exactly what you want to collect. There’s no waste, and you don’t have to spend time trying to get rid of garbage cards that you don’t want.
On top of that, I think the site is easy to use; the packs are typically below the retail price you’ll find in shops, plus there are loads of packs to choose from. The only minor improvements I want to see are more promotions and perhaps a mobile app. Other than that, I recommend the brand, and if you want to sign up at OpenThatPack today, just use my links or banners in this article!
You’re opening a digital version of the booster packs, yes. You can then get the physical version of the cards shipped home to your address if you want to keep any of them. Please note that they are all ungraded cards.
Yes! I did this for a bulk of Pokémon 30th Celebration cards that I wanted, and it only cost me $9.00 to ship them in bulk. That was for over 100 cards at once too.
I was able to do this by clicking on the pack I wanted to buy, and then clicking on “Set Odds”. This shows a list of the different card tier rarities/types, and the odds you have of pulling them.
No. I did mobile testing for this OpenThatPack review using the mobile-responsive version of the site. It worked fine and I was impressed with the conversion and the pack opening process.
