2020 NFL MVP Race: Week 9 Update, Predictions and Odds

We’ve made it to the halfway point of the season and there’s no better time to check in with the MVP race and see if there’s money to be made on any of the prospects.

In our pre-season preview, we put forward Russell Wilson as our top pick and those who tailed are looking very good right now with Russ as short as -160!

But just because he’s likely leading the race right now, doesn’t mean they’ve engraved the trophy just yet, so let’s get into some of the guys who we could still cash in on.

🏆 Favorites

🏈 Russell Wilson (-160)

There’s not a whole lot that can be said about Russ in the MVP race apart from if he stays fit and keeps this up, the title is likely his.

He’s never as much as had a single vote for the MVP but that is likely to change this season. If you bet on him in the pre-season then congrats but if you didn’t, then you’ve likely missed the boat and are better off checking out some value plays below!

🏈 Patrick Mahomes II (+350)

The Chiefs are 7-1 and it’s a surprise to absolutely no one that Patrick Mahomes is a major reason for that. Mahomes is arguably already a victim of his own success, which combined with the season Wilson is putting together means that he’s only second favorite despite playing unreal football for the past two months.

Mahomes could be worth a bet if you think Russ will slow down but at +300 there’s probably not quite enough value for the Chiefs superstar.

🏈 Aaron Rodgers (+900)

The Packers are 5-2, and similarly yo the Chiefs, a MASSIVE reason for that is their superstar QB, Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers' form has brought the best out of other guys like Davante Adams, who has scored five TDs in his last two games.

He won two MVPs last decade and if he keeps this up, will be right in the discussion to kick off the 2020s with another!

🏈 Tom Brady (+950)

Brady hadn’t made either our pre-season or Week 4 write-ups but the GOAT has gone to another level of the past few weeks, putting himself right in the MVP conversation (and his team in the Super Bowl conversations).

The 43-year-old appears to be only getting better as the season goes and he and his team-mates get more reps in together.

Personally, I like the Bucs to win the Championship (+700) more than a Brady MVP bet but both are very much on!

💰 The Sleepers

🏈 Kyler Murray (+2200 or 22/1)

Kyler has made this article three times this season now and for good reason: he’s a star.

The guy will likely win an MVP at some point in his career and this is probably a year or two too early but there’s not many more exciting guys to root for from week-to-week so at 22/1, he’s a great option to get on now.

🏈 Ben Roethliesberger (+2500 or 25/1)

The Steelers are 7-0. Yep, 7-0. Big Ben’s stats may not be the best in the league right but his team’s form just can not be ignored.

If they somehow end up going 16-0 or even 15-1 then he’s going to have to feature in the votes. Keep an eye on his odds if the Steelers keep winning. 

🏈 Alvin Kamara (+5000 or 50/1)

He may not have scored a touchdown in the last few weeks but he continues to be instrumental in the Saints’ season. They’re currently 5-2 and if Kamara can play a big role in a win over the Bucs this Sunday Night, sending the Saints to the top of the NFC South, the talk about his MVP push will grow at a rapid pace.

🔮 Bets for the Brave

🏈 Derrick Henry (+6000 or 60/1)

This man is an absolute machine (see) and as long as the last two weeks are just an aberration and the TItans get back to winning ways, he could still become the first non-QB to take out the MVP since Adrian Peterson in 2012.

Henry obviously has a lot of competition but in what is a year as crazy as 2020, who’s to say we can’t have a running back take out the top individual prize the league has to offer?

Oh yeah, he’s also scored EIGHT touchdowns in his last six games after starting the season with zero in his first two.

🏈 Aaron Donald (+10000 or 100/1)

As long as Aaron Donald continues to be the best at what he does by such a great margin, he will forever find himself in my MVP predictions.

His odds have fluctuated slightly, coming into around 80/1 a couple of weeks ago but it’s all still overs.

I said above that a crazy 2020 could mean Derrick Henry wins the award, but why not a defensive player!?
