NFL 2020 MVP: Preview, Picks and Bets

After Lamar Jackson surprised at pre-season odds of +10000 in 2019, you’re no doubt on the lookout for the next potential dark horse that could take out the AP MVP in 2020.

🏆 Favorites

Patrick Mahomes (+350)

Everyone knows what Mahomes can do, he won the MVP in 2018 and then became the second-youngest Quarterback to win the Super Bowl earlier this year.

Showtime signed the biggest contract in sports history over the off-season and we reckon he’s a great chance of letting us see a fraction of his fortune by backing him to win the MVP in 2020.

Lamar Jackson (+600)

You won’t quite get the ridiculous +10000 odds for Jackson this season, but that’s not to say you shouldn’t bet on the reigning MVP.

Jackson is the best rushing quarterback in the league and if he can build on his 36 touchdown passes from last season, the 23 year-old is a huge chance to be the first back-to-back MVP since Peyton Manning 11 years ago.

🔥 Top Pick

Russell Wilson (+700)

Is this the year the self-appointed “Mr. Unlimited” gets the MVP recognition his career has deserved?

Love him or hate him, Wilson is set to be a first-ballot hall of famer when he retires and yet, he’s never received a single MVP vote.

This lack of MVP love in the past has ‘storyline of the season’ written all over it and combining that with the numbers our projections have him getting, Wilson is our number one pick to win the MVP this season.

💰 Value Picks

Kyler Murray (+2200)

The last two MVP winners were both second-year QBs when they won it and Kyler Murray is a serious threat to become the third in a row.

Murray is one of the most skillful dudes in the league and his eye-catching passes can be absolutely ridiculous.

The Cardinals would have to make a jump from last season’s record of 5-10-1 but if they do, Murray will be right up there in MVP discussions.

Cam Newton (+3000)

The 2015 MVP was hampered by injuries last season, missing 14 of the 16 games. Newton’s 2020 season was up in the air for a while but now that he’s signed for the evergreen Patriots, a healthy season could see him back at his eye-catching best.

The Patriots are going to have a winning record again this season and if Newton can make the QB spot his own, watch his MVP stocks skyrocket from week to week.

🔮 Non-QB Chances

Since Tom Brady’s first MVP back in 2007, quarterbacks have won all but one MVP (shoutout Adrian Peterson).

So who are the best non-QBs in the running for an unlikely MVP win? We have three names here that might tickle your fancy if you’re looking to win big on long odds.

Christian McCaffrey (+4000) and Derrick Henry (+5000)

Two of the best running backs in the league, McCaffrey and Henry are at juicy odds (even if they are still half the odds of Jackson last season) to become the first RB to win the award since Adrian Peterson in 2012.

Both the Panthers and Titans are longshots to win Super Bowl LV, but if either are to make a push then these two guys are going to be vital. If you’re thinking the run of QB dominance may be coming to an end then look further than these two stars.

Aaron Donald (+10000)

“Finally!”, you might be saying, “someone at 2019 Lamar Jackson odds”. And, yep, Aaron Donald does offer up a tasty looking money making chance and there’s good reason.

He would have to become the first defensive player to take out the award since 1986 (Lawrence Taylor) but who better than the two-time Defensive Player of The Year to do so?

Worth a small wager as a fun bet to ride all season.

Odell Beckham Jr (+15000)

The ever-flashy Wide Receiver didn’t quite have the season he was hoping for after making the move to Cleveland last season, but he’s exciting to watch and will be looking to rectify his 2019 efforts.

He’d be the first ever wideout to win the award, and would compete with QB Baker Mayfield (+2000) if the Browns do make a run, but we don’t mind the idea of OBJ having a career season here and can see him giving the MVP voters something to think about.
