US Open Final: Best Bet and Predictions for Casper Ruud vs. Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, September 11
Casper Ruud vs. Carlos Alcaraz
We've been riding the Alcaraz train for quite some time now and it's hard to just go away from that now. The oddsmakers made it pretty clear who they like in this one, as they slapped a -255 tag on the Spaniard. That's pretty significant after the 19-year-old had to play three five-set matches in a row, but we tend to agree that he'll get through the physical fatigue and get the job done here.
Ruud is a very good tennis player, but it's hard to put him in elite category at this point in time. Something just wouldn't sit right if he were to take the top spot in the men's rankings, which is something that happens to be on the line in this match. Whoever wins will be No. 1 on the ATP Tour.
Alcaraz is the one that has dominated this head-to-head series in tour-level matches, as he is 2-0 in their previous two meetings and won both matches in straight sets. Their meeting in Miami back in March was especially telling, with Alcaraz coming away with a 7-5, 6-4 win on the hard courts there.
It's just very difficult to imagine Ruud finding a way to fluster Alcaraz in this match. There isn't much that he can do at a higher level than the Spaniard. Alcaraz's only small weakness is his ability to serve, but even that is nitpicking a bit. He is every bit as good with the ball on his racquet as Ruud is, and this just feels like it's the 19-year-old's moment. The New York crowd has fallen in love with Alcaraz and it's time for him to put his first Grand Slam title in his trophy room. This will be the first of many and he'll cover the 3.5-game spread in the process of putting his first stamp on history.
PICK: Alcaraz -3.5 games, which you can get at -135 with DraftKings
