PGA Championship 2024 Golf Betting Preview

We've cashed a couple of these in the past few weeks and we're looking to do it again.

With the LIV crew in town, we were hoping to have some fun using matchups with a PGA golfer vs. a LIV golfer but those matchups aren't ideal so we're just looking at our best picks. 

To make this parlay, we'll be using the Head-to-Head matchups available at DraftKings as they have our preferred options available. We'll enter both golfers into our H2H Predictor, select the Tournament-long option, and see which golfer gets the advantage for the weekend.

Leg 1: Scottie Scheffler to beat Rory McIlroy (-165)

It makes sense to anchor our favorite to win against his opponent, particularly when we're not as high on his counterpart as the books. Rory gets the second-shortest odds to win at +750, but we have him third and well behind Scottie in probability.

Here, our 65.6% matchup win probability would make fair odds for Scheffler -191, showing clear value even as a heavier favorite here. Rory should be +231 per our model while he sits at +130, way overpriced.

Leg 2: Brooks Koepka to beat Bryson DeChambeau (-120)

Next up, we've got mortal enemies and LIV defectors Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau head-to-head. This little rivalry is always fun, especially when it brings that grit to the usually pristine PGA TOUR. 

Koepka is a three-time and defending champ of the PGA Championship and there's no reason to expect him to turn in anything other than a competitive performance this time around. He gets our fourth-highest probability to win with a 4.1% probability, more than double that of DeChambeau. He gets a 14.3% better chance to finish in the Top 20 and his fair odds would be -135 at his 57.4% probability, giving us a small edge here.

Leg 3: Viktor Hovland to beat Cameron Young (-120)

Our third leg is on Viktor Hovland to best his opponent Cameron Young. Hovland is one of golf's most promising young talents with six wins at just 26 years old, though he's struggled a bit through his seven eventts this year, with his best finishes at T19, T22 and T24. Thougn Young has never won a PGA event, he's flirted with victory this year, finishing as high as 2nd, T4, T8 and T9.

Our fair price for Hovland would be -133 so there's an edge in him here and our model gives him a substantial 14.1% better probability to net a Top 20 finish.

Leg 4: Sam Burns to beat Tony Finau (-120)

Our final leg is technically our closest matchup, but we still get a 60.9% chance of a tie or win and a slim edge with our fair odds at -125. Sam Burns went on a little heater earlier this year ripping off finishes of T6, 10th, T3 and T10 in a row. Finau has just a pair of finishes inside the Top 10 in 12 events this year.

Form a holistic perspective, 27-year old Sam Burns has one win (5) fewer than Finau who has a decade of PGA Tour experience on Burns. He's a better golfer these days and DimersBOT likes him to edge out Finau over the weekend.
