NBA Finals 2020 Miami Heat vs. Los Angeles Lakers Game Six: Predictions, picks and bets

Coming out of a timeout with 16.8 seconds remaining and down by a point in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, LeBron James and the LA Lakers looked like they were readying for their moment in time. The ensuing play, though, would not give us a โ€˜where-were-you-whenโ€™ juncture like Jordanโ€™s final shot in โ€˜98, or Magicโ€™s heroics as a rookie in 1980. But after the dust settled on Miamiโ€™s 111-108 win to avoid elimination and peg the series back to 3-2, it turns out we were watching a moment in time all along.

It was the Heatโ€™s Jimmy Butler who turned in a historic performance that may very well be the turning point of these NBA Finals as it stretches out to an unexpected sixth game. Jimmy Buckets rested for only 48 seconds as he notched up his second triple-double of the Championship series, pouring in 35 points among 12 rebounds and 11 assists.

The Lakers will be ruing missed opportunities as they surged from a double-digit deficit early in the fourth to gain the lead in the final minutes. They were unable to capitalize, though, and it came down to a final shot from Danny Green, who was wide open after a LeBron James dish, to win it. Green, who is shooting an abysmal 27% from deep in this series, missed badly to ensure the Lakers wait for a title will have to wait for at least another 48 hours.

Can the never-say-die Heat somehow force this to a Game 7, or will the Lakers finally etch their name into history?

Two games into this series it was looking like a fizzer. The Lakers were getting everything they wanted on offense and Miami were banged up, missing big man Bam Adebayo and playmaker Goran Dragic. The Heat had no right to push this to 5 games, let alone 6, but now they find themselves with ultimate momentum.

Our model still likes the Lakers at the moneyline, but the Heat have gone from chicken feed to caviar in the space of a week. Even if they go down, theyโ€™ll go down swinging. Heat to cover.

Lakers H2H has a 66% probability

Nights like Friday doesnโ€™t help LeBronโ€™s quest to enrich his legacy as he tries to chase the shadow of Michael Jordan. While the decision for โ€˜Bron to kick it out to a WIIIIIIIIDE OPEN (I mean WIDE OPEN) Danny Green for the final shot to win it was the right one, the haters will be coming for LBJ for not just forcing the shot up himself.

Fortunately for the Lakers, they have a couple of chances to right the wrong. James has time and time again proven that when he is wronged, he usually comes out the next time out and makes a statement. He missed an opportunity to add to the crown on Friday, donโ€™t count on lightning striking twice. Lakers at the moneyline.

The total has been hovering the 215-220 mark all series and weโ€™re right on 215 again in Game 6. With three under and two over through the first five games, our DimersBOT sees this one as a coin flip but likes the over to make it even. A nice stat for anyone looking to take the over: the average total in this series is 217. Science. Cash the over.
