Free MLB Picks for Wednesday June 8, 2022

Tigers vs. Pirates, 12:35PM ET

Detroit picked up the series opener against Pittsburgh last night quite easily with Tarik Skubal first getting scratched and then being reinstated, but we should have more clarity today with Alex Faedo and Mitch Keller on the mound to start things off for this matinee matchup. Both pitchers have been relatively economical as of late with neither giving up more than 2 runs in their last three starts each. Scoring runs is a major issue for both of the ballclubs who rank last and 3rd last in the league respectively when it comes to run offense. This is going to be a grind.

Diamondbacks vs. Reds, 6:40PM ET

The series so far between these two has been a runfest with a combined total of 29 runs scored through games on Monday and Tuesday, so naturally, we're taking the over again tonight. The Reds will be sending Mike Minor (0-1, 11.25 ERA) to the mound, while the D-Backs are going with Merrill Kelly (4-3, 3.66 ERA). While Minor's ERA is a little skewed given he has only pitched 4 innings this season, there's enough of a sample size over the past 2 years to suggest the 34-year-old is well and truly past it.

Yankees vs. Twins, 7:40PM ET

Nestor Cortes Jr. - that's all we need to say.

To expand, though, Cortes has been immense this season with a 1.50 ERA through 10 starts in 2022. The equation is quite simple for this one really - Cortes strangles the Twins while the Yankees hitters, who average close to 5 runs scored per game, keep the runs ticking over.
