MLB Futures 2022: World Series Winner Predictions and Bets

After doing the unthinkable in 2021 when we absolutely hit it out of the park with our MLB Futures, we’re back again for 2022, identifying where the best value lies for World Series bettors, thanks to our trusty DimersBOT.

But before we dive into this year, let’s first take another moment to bask in all the glory we achieved last season:

Just before Opening Day 2021, our Dimers predictive analytics model simulated the 2021 MLB Season 10,000 times to try and figure out which team exactly would be the one taking home the coveted Commissioner’s Trophy at year’s end.

After the simulations had run, each team was assigned a probability of their chances of winning the World Series, relative to how they performed in the data model simulations. We then took those probabilities, compared them to the Sportsbooks' odds and found three teams who had the biggest differential in odds compared to our probabilities. We then made our bets.

The teams?

The Braves (pre-season odds of 14/1), the Astros (22/1) and, the Red Sox (75/1).

Not only did all three teams perform up to our expectations, but all three of them made their respective League Championship Series. That’s right. Out of four remaining teams, we had futures tickets on all of them. When it came down to the World Series between the Astros and Braves, we knew we couldn’t lose!

In the end, with Atlanta overcoming Houston to win their first World Series in over 25 years, we cashed $9000 from a $600 bet, sharing the winnings with the Dimers social community via contests and giveaways.

And now we’re back to do it again!

With a condensed Spring Training schedule and final rosters only being set in stone within the past couple of days, DimersBOT has had to work overtime this year, but it's finally ready to drop its three teams you should be wagering on this MLB season.

Atlanta Braves to win the World Series

  • Dimers' probability to win the World Series: 17.5%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +470
  • Current best available odds: +1200 with BetMGM

It’s not in the least surprising that the reigning champs feature at the top of the betting markets again in 2022, but when comparing our simulation data with the current sportsbook odds, we actually think getting +1200 on the Braves with some Sportsbook is a steal.

While Atlanta did lose two core players in Jorge Soler and Freddie Freeman from their batting lineup, getting Matt Olsen from the Athletics, not to mention the mid-season return of Ronald Acuna Jr ensures that this will be a team we are still talking about come October.

Boston Red Sox to win the World Series

  • Dimers' probability to win World Series: 6.1%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +1540
  • Current best available odds: +2200 with PointsBet

The Red Sox shocked the baseball world in 2021 when they turned around the entire ball club in the space of 12 months to go from the worst team in the AL East to competing for a World Series berth after starting the season as rank +7500 underdogs. The Sox will be looking to build off their comeback season and have all the components to once again compete in the postseason. Getting them at odds of +2200, currently with PointsBet, could work in your favor down the track with cash out options available as the season goes on.

Cleveland Guardians to win the World Series

  • Dimers' Probability to win World Series: 1.3%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +7600
  • Current best available odds: +10000 with BetMGM

It’s a long shot, but what a story it would be if Cleveland, at the beginning of a new era for the storied franchise, could go on and win the World Series at 100/1! We would need a lot of luck to go our way, but if you’re one who enjoys betting on a big odds, this is the best chance.

Through our simulations, our data model determined the Guardians to have a 1.3% chance of capturing the ultimate glory, which means the odds on offer with BetMGM of +10000 are way off the mark. Once again, this might not eventuate, but it doesn’t mean your ticket is dead. With facilities available like Prop Swap, if Cleveland gets off to a hot start this season, those odds will dramatically decrease and you might have some bargaining power to on-sell your ticket to another bettor for a profit.
