MLB Betting Insights 08/30/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

Tied with the non-contending Angels and Diamondbacks for MLB’s longest current win streak of four games, the Minnesota Twins are scratching and clawing their way back in the NL Central race after leading the division most of the season.

They’re just 1 ½ games behind Cleveland heading into tonight’s matchup against Boston. Minnesota needs to tread water at least another week before star OF Byron Buxton returns from a hip injury. 2B Jorge Polanco (kneecap) could return tonight.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

Getting swept at home by Arizona and losing six of seven in the heat of the playoff chase sure doesn’t bode well for the Chicago White Sox. The Sox appear much more like pretenders than contenders at this stage, despite having one of MLB’s easiest schedules on paper in September, it’s hard to believe in this club.

Some of their pitchers, including tonight’s starter Lucas Giolito, have underachieved, while OF Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez have been in and out of the lineup with injuries.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

A cup of coffee in the majors last season seems to be paying off for Arizona’s Jake McCarthy. A first-round pick in the 2018 draft, McCarthy turned 25 just a month ago and appears to be settling in as an outfield option for the Diamondbacks after the recent trade of David Peralta cleared the way for more at-bats.

Riding a 17-for-45 streak with 9 RBIs and 5 steals over the past 10 days heading into tonight’s tough matchup against Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola, McCarthy is now hitting .286 on the year in 203 at-bats.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Brandon Drury made history Aug. 3 when he became the first player in San Diego Padres franchise history to hit a grand slam in his first at-bat with the club. He then homered in back-to-back games a week later. However, since Aug. 13, the journeyman infielder had struggled mightily up until a wake-up game last night.

Mired in an 11-for-59 drought with one homer and 6 RBIs over the past two weeks, Drury will try to trend in the right direction tonight against San Francisco’s Logan Webb.
