Golf Model Liking The Betting Favorite for 2022 PGA Championship

The 2022 PGA Championship is set to take place at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma this week, with Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler the betting favorites with most sportsbooks.

Rahm finally secured his first major victory last year after seven Top-10 finishes across the big four tournaments, whilst Scheffler enters this week as the most in-form player in the world, having won four times since February, including his Masters victory just last month.

Now, if you're looking to bet on the golf this week, you've come to the right place, with our predictive analytics model simulating this week's PGA tournament 1000s of times to determine where the value lies in betting the winner, Top-5, Top-10 and Top-20 finishes.

As you can see below, our model is liking Rahm more of the two, with the in-form Scheffler currently the fourth most likely winner.

As we look under the top two though, another guy stands out with a flame next to his name. Basically, a 🔥 indicates an edge on the sportsbooks' odds in comparison to our probablity.

That man is Australian Cam Smith, who DimersBOT is giving a a 5.8% chance of winning this week.

A 5.8% probability has implied fair betting odds of around +1600, and we're getting +2200! Now, this is a bet.

The Australian is fast-becoming a favorite of many golf fans, with his laid back attitude and dirty mullet seemingly endearing to many that follow the sport. Plus, he's easy to recognise for those that just tune in for the majors!

Whilst Smith is a great value bet to make on this week's tournament in Tulsa, there's a reason (well, a few!) that our model has Jon Rahm sitting atop of the probabilities.

Firstly, Rahm is coming in hot off a win in his last start, in which DimersBOT hit a nice winner.

The Spaniard is also the most balanced all-round player in the world at the moment, leading the PGA TOUR in shots gained: total the last two seasons, and sitting in third-place for 2022 so far.

This consistent play over the past few years has the 27-year-old ranked number one on the Dimers' world golf rankings, one spot ahead of where he is on the OWGR.

Rahm had been known for his short temper on the course in the past, but has recently become a favorite of more and more golf fans, with the birth of his first child seeming to bring some perspective and calmness to his life, in turn helping his game on the course.

Now that he's won another tournament since starting his life as a dad, Rahm looks set to get back to his dominant self and will most likely win another major soon.

On becoming a dad, and what his son Kepa has brought to him, Rahm said, "He’s given me a lot more than I’ve given him, the sense of presence and love I feel when I’m with him is so unique.

And it's made it easier to go between golf and not-golf. When I’m home, I’m dad, right, that's all he cares about…it helps me in a lot of ways get away from the game, it’s really cool."

So with Kepa and Rahm's wife Kelly supporting him at the Southern Hills Country Club this week, he's looking a great bet and a feel-good story at the same time!
