FA Cup Final - Chelsea vs. Liverpool Soccer Picks and Predictions
May 12, 2022, 4:16AM
The 2022 FA Cup Final is upon us and as always, our soccer sharp, Prospector Sam, has us locked in with his best bet of the big game.
Ah yes, the FA Cup. A wonderful tradition in English soccer where any professional team across the country has a chance at glory and the title of “best team in England but only as it relates to single elimination matches.” Now, don’t get me wrong, while my snarky tone might imply that I don’t like the FA Cup, I actually really do. It’s an awesome idea that allows smaller teams to fight their way up against bigger clubs (along with some lucrative paydays) and creates a playoff-like atmosphere that doesn’t exist in the normal EPL season.
So why do I sound less than enthused about this final? Well, because this match is just a perennial reminder for me that Spurs can’t win anything and that some other club I hate is lifting a trophy. This year’s event is no exception. But, while my personal interests may not align perfectly, it’s a great game to watch and there is absolutely money to be made here. I can use the extra dollars to dry my tears.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool: Saturday May 14, 11:45 AM EDT
I can’t believe I’m about to do this, but I have to. The numbers on this game are so terrible and skewed that I have no choice but to bet on Chelsea to lift the trophy. I hate myself, but it’s just the right play. Chelsea are by no means thriving at the moment, but Tuchel’s tactics are built for single game competitions and he showed it last year by winning the UCL trophy. On top of that, Chelsea have had nothing but this title to focus on in months, while Liverpool are still chasing 3 competitions and had to grind out a win in their midweek fixture against Villa just to keep pace with City.
Are Chelsea the better side as a whole? Absolutely not. But Liverpool have had fixtures pile up as they chase trophies (a tough life, I know) and tired legs aren’t going to help them. This is also the least important of their 3 remaining potential conquests, and Klopp would probably be willing to sacrifice it if it means a better chance of lifting the Champions League crown in 2 weeks. So, I think this game is more of a coin flip than current form or play over the course of the year would suggest, and getting the Londoners at +148 to take this match (which includes a win in ET or Penalties) is too good of a price to pass up. It makes me sick to back Chelsea in anything, but it’s the right play for the money. May God have mercy on my soul.
PICK: Chelsea To Lift the Cup (+148)
