Arsenal vs. Tottenham - Pick of the Day

OOOOHHHH BABY...let’s get ready to rumble. The international break was, as usual, a complete snoozefest and didn't even remotely scratch the soccer itch for most fans. But, to make up for it, the EPL has blessed us with two of the biggest derbies this weekend and it’s a most-welcome gift that I gladly accept.

We start things off with the match near and dear to my cartoon heart, the North London Derby, where my beloved Spurs take on Arsenal at the Emirates. And, while I openly begrudge Tottenham and their ability to let me down on a consistent basis, this line is so cuckoo, even the Cocoa Puffs bird wouldn't touch it.

Arsenal have had a strong first two months, and sitting on top of the table this far into the year is more than just a blip. But their fixture schedule has been largely comfortable aside from their one big match against United (which they lost), and I’m not ready to call them title contenders yet (or ever, I’ll deny it even if they’re holding the trophy). In fairness, Spurs also haven’t had many big games with their match against City getting wiped by the Queen’s death, but they sit one point back of the Gunners with one more goal scored and the same amount conceded. Basically, this game is about a coin flip in my opinion and a draw would be pretty unsurprising.

That brings us nicely to the actual bet we’re taking here, which is Spurs Double Chance at -135. The Gunners getting -105 for the moneyline is a wild amount of confidence in this squad, and while I’d love to believe Tottenham are going to take three points, this match has “tactical battle” written all over it.

With players coming back from a week of international travel you’ll see some tired legs and clunkiness early on, and both teams will know that not losing could be just as crucial as winning in respect to the long-term picture. A score of 1-1 or even 0-0 wouldn't shock me, but I don't see a ton to separate the sides and that means getting both Spurs to win and the draw at -135 is a bargain. This is absolutely a self interested pick, but it’s also the right one.
