2022 Wimbledon: Favorites Swiatek, Djokovic Hogging the Ticket and the Handle

Much like at past Wimbledons, the favorite in the women’s draw is attracting a significantly higher number of wagers than any competitor. But the magnet for those bets is no longer Serena Williams, a seven-time champion.

Iga Swiatek (+150) has pulled in 55.5 percent of tickets and 32.6 percent of the handle at the sportsbooks - and for good reason.

The Polish star, who claimed the Wimbledon title at her initial appearance in 2019, enters Monday’s Grand Slam tournament in London with a 35-match victory streak. A win in her opener would eclipse the longest stretch of success on the women’s tour since 2000, when Venus Williams, Serena’s sister, took 35 in a row.
Serena, whose latest singles match occurred about a year ago, is a longshot at +2000. She has lured the third most bets (5.1 percent) and fourth most handle (6.6 percent).
Two other entrants with lofty odds have gained bettors’ attention. Angelique Kerber (+2800) has generated the third most money (8.3 percent) and Emma Raducanu (+3500) the fifth most wagers (3.2 percent).
Swiatek is such an overwhelming pick that no challenger carries odds of three digits. The next four players on the board are Ons Jabeur (+1000), Coco Gauff (+1100), Jelena Ostapenko (+1400) and Simona Halep (+1600).
Betting on the men’s draw is similarly lopsided, with the top seed Novak Djokovic (-125) accounting for 58.2 percent of the handle and 32.2 percent of tickets. The largest wager at the sportsbooks through mid-day Friday was placed on the six-time champion from Serbia — $9,000 at odds of -105.

Djokovic’s perennial rival, Rafael Nadal, is third on the odds list at +700. The second highest share of handle (10.7 percent) and fourth most wagers (8.3 percent) are targeted at him.
Matteo Berrettini, the second choice of the oddsmakers at +600, is fifth in money wagered (3.7 percent) and tickets sold (3.8 percent).
The heftiest potential payout is $21,000 on a $1,000 wager backing Hubert Hurkacz. The player from Poland won a Wimbledon warm-up event Sunday, and his odds have slipped to +1500, same as Carlos Alcarez’s at fourth on the board.
