CFB Computer Picks, Analysis and Best Bet For Clemson vs. Wake Forest on September 24, 2022

CFB Computer Picks, Analysis and Best Bet For Clemson vs. Wake Forest on September 24, 2022

In a massive early-season ACC match-up, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will look to upset Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers at Truist Field in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at 12:00PM ET on Saturday, September 24. Wake Forest is coming off a 37-36 win over the Liberty Flames, so Dave Clawson's team has been battled tested coming into this one. Clemson hasn't yet been punched in the mouth, so it'll be interesting to see if that matters this weekend.

Will the Demon Deacons come away with a massive upset over the Tigers? You might want to keep reading our Clemson vs. Wake Forest betting preview to find out.

Clemson vs. Wake Forest Analysis

The Spread

Last year, Clemson earned a 48-27 win over Wake Forest in a year that was viewed as a disappointment for the Tigers and a massive step forward for the Demon Deacons. That's not exactly a great sign for Clawson and Co. heading into this game, as the team doesn't look like it's any better than it was a year ago. On the other hand, the Tigers are once again looking like they are ready to compete for a national championship, and we expect them to show that by covering the 7-point spread on the road here.

Not only has Clemson won 13 games in a row against Wake Forest, but the team has also covered in each of the last four meetings between these two. The Tigers are great on defense this year, as they're giving up only 14.0 points per game. With that said, they should be able to find a way to get quarterback Sam Hartman and the Demon Deacons offense off the field enough to win this game by more than a touchdown. Hartman leads an explosive group, but Clemson is up to the challenge.

Quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei is also looking a lot better leading his unit on the other side of the ball, as he has thrown for 662 yards with five touchdowns and only one pick through three games. He has also rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown to this point. Against a Wake Forest defense that couldn't stop Liberty last week, Uiagalelei should be in for a good game. But it could be running back Will Shipley that does most of the damage here. He has rushed for two touchdowns in all three of the Tigers' games this season and he should have no trouble finding the end zone against the Demon Deacons.

It should also be noted that Swinney's Tigers are 15-2 straight-up and 11-5-1 ATS as a road favorite of 7.5 to 14 points since he became the team's head coach. Clemson is also 17-3 both SU and ATS after outrushing an opponent by 200 or more yards in its previous game, which is what the Tigers did against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs last week.

The Over/Under

When these teams met last year, they combined to score 75 points in a game with a total of 57. This year, the oddsmakers were willing to put the total down a little lower, but we're not overreacting to that. This Clemson team is just as likely to hang a big number on this lousy Wake Forest defense, which just let a Malik Willis-less Liberty team march down the field at will last week.

We think the Tigers are going to put up at least 35 on their own in this one, with the Demon Deacons not having an answer for the physical play of Clemson up front. The Over is 3-1 in the four games the Tigers have played as road favorite of 7.5 to 10 points under Swinney and it's also 7-4 in road games Clemson has played with a total between 52.5 and 56 in that same span.

Clemson vs. Wake Forest Best Bet

Over 56 Points

We think Clemson will get the job done in this game, but we're a little more confident in this turning into a high-scoring contest. Even if the Tigers are able to put a dent in the efficiency of the Demon Deacons passing offense, Wake Forest is still going to score in this game. There should be quite a few explosive plays in this one, which is why it's hard not to love Over 56.

We strongly suggest taking this with the DraftKings bet $5 to get $150 offer mentioned at the top of this article because, even if the Over doesn't hit, new customers still get $150 just for joining and placing a successful $5 moneyline bet on the gameYou can claim it ➡️ here ⬅️.
