The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Qatar early next week and Dimers.com soccer writer and former professional Vincenzo Pugliese breaks down each of the groups, starting with Group G. featuring Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. Group G Prediction: Brazil

Brazil will enter as the true favorites after becoming the #1 ranked team according to FIFA’s latest rankings released in October.

‘Seleção Canarinha’ have won the most FIFA World Cups with a total of 5 triumphs, but have been a bit underwhelming in the competition since last winning the 2002 edition hosted in Korea-Japan.

Now with a fully loaded squad and some serious depth across all areas of the pitch, Brazil are amongst the heavy favorites to lift the trophy in Lusail Stadium on December 18th.

To qualify Brazil was nothing short of excellent. Tite’s men topped the South American qualifying group with 45 points, going undefeated with a 14W-3D-0L record. Adding on to those notable numbers, they finished with a 40-5 goal difference across all 17 of their CONMEBOL qualifiers.

Progressing to the World Cup has never been an issue for Brazil, In-fact, they are the only country to have appeared in all 21 competitions since the inaugural edition in 1930.

A staggering roster from top to bottom that could easily go all the way in Qatar 2022, Head Manager Tite, has an abundance of superstars to work with. Given this team's exquisite run of form and their studded roster, there's no doubt that Brazil is the team to beat and also why they rated as FIFA’s number ranked team. The belief is there and I get the feeling that the winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be a South American team.

With Neymar’s consistently jaw-dropping performances on the world stage there's a serious chance that Brazil will be adding a sixth star above that Brazilian crest come the Final.

Brazil will enter the 2022 FIFA World Cup at odds of +450 to lift the FIFA World Cup and they are Dimers' top pick when it comes to probabilities, at 15.6%.

Group G Prediction: Switzerland

The Swiss are always a dangerous team to face, and typically unpredictable when they appear on the world stage, so they could surprise their Group G rivals here.

Switzerland found themselves in a tough qualification group with the likes of European Champions, Italy in their way. With a 5-3-0 record - and a crucial point in Rome thanks to a 90th minute missed penalty from Jorginho - Switzerland managed to take control of the group heading into the final round, and steal the automatic qualification spot.

Switzerland now finds themselves in a very similar World Cup group to the one they faced in Russia 2018. Then, they managed to snatch a point off five time tournament winners Brazil, while they also grabbed a win against Serbia to progress as the second placed team. Head Manager Murat Yakin, who was appointed as the national team coach in August 2021, will no doubt look to accomplish the same feat in Qatar.

With a lot of confidence from previous big game performances, the Swiss will hope to advance into the Round of 16 for the third consecutive time and head to Qatar with odds of +115 to progress past Group G with a 51.8% chance of making the knockout stages.

Group G Prediction: Serbia

Serbia will look to redeem themselves from their last World Cup performance where they were similarly drawn, with both Brazil and Switzerland in their group, at Russia 2018.

Since then, many of the names that were selected on that roster have elevated their profiles in the world of football over the past four-and-a-half-years.

‘The Eagles’ will certainly be a force to be reckoned with, as their dominant displays throughout qualifying proved. On the final match day of the European World Cup qualifiers, Serbia had to travel away to Lisbon in an all or nothing match against Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal.

Before the match took place, the two sides were equal on points with the Portuguese only needed a draw in their own backyard, given they had a better goal difference. It was a fantastic start for Ronaldo’s team, taking Portugal only two minutes to break the deadlock and go ahead with a Renato Sanchez goal. This left Serbia with a huge task ahead of it, needing to come from behind in order to seal the automatic qualification spot by defeating Portugal away.

In the 33rd minute it was the Captain, their number 10, Dusan Tadic who drew the teams level and suddenly there was hope of a major upset on the horizon.

Suddenly, in the 90th minute, Tadic once again found himself down the flank when he delivered an audacious cross for Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic to head home and break Portuguese hearts.

It was that match that proved Serbia’s tenacity heading into Qatar, topping their group over Portugal and with an undefeated qualification campaign of 6W-2D-0L.

Dragan Stojkovic was appointed as their manager just before the start of that qualification campaign, and without any professional coaching experience in Europe, many doubted the 57-year old.

Serbia will enter the Qatar World Cup at +130 odds of advancing from this group.

Group G Prediction: Cameroon

For Cameroon, their World Cup run will be an uphill battle, and the Indomitable Lions will need a World Cup miracle to get past Group G.

Cameroon topped their qualifying group with an overall 5W-0D-1L record, and earned themselves a two-legged fixture against a tough Algerian side for a spot at Qatar 2022.

Cameroon are led by Rigobert Song, the nation's former captain and most-capped player with 137 appearances. The nation's footballing icon took over the national team in February 2022, after the outgoing Antonio Conceicao led the 2022 AFCON hosts to a disappointing third place finish in that tournament. With that, it is expected that Song’s men will finish dead last in Group G and, if you're brave, you can get +350 odds for them to progress to the Round of 16.
