PICK: Penguins Money Line at Avalanche (+140)

The desperate Pittsburgh Penguins hit the road tonight as they visit the defending Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena.

Pittsburgh has lost 4 games in a row and have been outscored 18-7 in the span. The Pens are off a 2-1 home loss to Ottawa, a game in which they fired 49 shots on net toward Dylan Ferguson but still came up short.

Pittsburgh has fallen out of a Wild Card Race spot due to this losing streak as they currently sit one point behind the Florida Panthers. Pittsburgh does have a game in hand but they need to string together some wins as Florida is playing really well, despite last night's loss to Philly.

Colorado is surging right now as they have won seven in a row and are in contention for the Central Division title, currently sitting in third place, two points out of first.

The Avs have had a relatively easy time lately as the win streak includes wins against Chicago, Detroit, Ottawa, Montreal and Arizona. Colorado is better on the road this season than they are at home, where they are a beatable 19-11-5.

The Penguins have not won a road game since March 2nd, when they went into Tampa and won 5-4, in a shootout.

Both teams are dealing with injuries at this time as Pittsburgh is missing several key defenseman (Kulikov, Pettersson and Ruuta) and the Avs are also missing key defenseman as well  (Johnson, Manson and Makar, who is questionable tonight) and a couple forwards (Rodrigues and Lehkonen).

Desperation does not always equal wins but I like Pittsburgh to get off the schneid tonight. I really liked their game against Ottawa and I am expecting Crosby and company to be very focused tonight as they look to secure what would be a big win against the Champs.
