Quebec Online Gambling Laws & Regulations 2026

What You Need to Know About Quebec Online Casinos

Quebec follows a similar approach to online casino gaming as many other Canadian provinces. This basically means that you have two options if you want to play slots and table games online:

• Go to the officially province-regulated Espacejeux casino site where you can play a good variety of slots, live dealer games and so on
• Visit any of the many international online casinos that accept customers from Quebec, even though these gaming sites aren’t regulated in the province

Many gamers will be happy playing at Espacejeux, as it is operated by Loto-Quebec and it’ll give you a safe, simple and fair way to play. However, the option to use one of the international casino sites could dramatically broaden the variety of games you can play. There’s nothing actually stopping you from using those online casinos from Quebec at the moment, although it looks like legislative measures may be introduced as early as 2027.

A Timeline of Quebec Online Gaming

Quebec has long been opposed to all forms of gambling, but things have been dramatically changing in just the past couple of decades. Here’s a quick timeline of the key events:

• 1892: The Criminal Code of Canada imposes a blanket ban on all forms of gambling
• 1969: An amendment is made to the criminal code that lets provincial governments run their own lotteries, and Quebec quickly launches Loto-Quebec
• 2010: Loto-Quebec launches the Espacejeux site paving the way for online gaming in the province
• 2016: The Quebec government tries to block international online casinos from operating in the province
• 2018: The above move is blocked as being unconstitutional by the Quebec Superior Court
• 2026: Political parties in the province start to push to end Loto-Quebec's monopoly over online casino gaming

What Next for Online Casinos in Quebec?

So, the interesting thing here is that it looks like Quebec could soon be following other provinces like Alberta and Ontario in opening up their market to commercial online casinos.

This comes after renewed pressure from the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition as well as various political factors in the province. It's thought that efforts to deregulate the market could start soon so as to bring in millions of dollars in tax revenues as early as 2027.

We will update this guide if any formal bills are drafted and let you know how the National Assembly views such legislation. But one thing's for sure, and this is that the future is looking bright for casino gamers in La Belle Province.
