Seahawks vs. Broncos Thursday Night Football preview
Both teams enter Thursday at 3-2.
Seattle is coming off a 32-29 home loss to San Francisco in which it turned the ball over four times, and Sam Darnold has thrown five interceptions in three games since returning from a Week 1 glute injury. Denver won 23-17 at the Chargers, but Bo Nix threw for just 123 yards, and the Broncos rank 26th in scoring at 19.4 points per game.
The bigger story is Denver's secondary. Cornerback Patrick Surtain II hasn't played since injuring his ankle in Week 4, and safety Talanoa Hufanga hurt his own ankle against the Chargers.
Neither practiced Monday or Tuesday, and both are trending towards missing Thursday.
The market makes Seattle a narrow road favorite at -2.5, with the Seahawks -133 and Broncos +130 on the moneyline along with a game total of 40.5 points.
Per our model, Seattle owns a 58.2% win probability and we are projecting a 21-19 Seahawks win.
Our Seahawks vs. Broncos same game parlay picks
With a volatile Broncos offense and a potentially deplted Denver secondary, this SGP is focusing on the Seattle passing game.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba has 49% of Seattle's receiving yards this season, the highest share by any player since 1975, and the Dimers model expects that to continue against a short-handed Denver secondary.
As always, every leg is backed by our NFL player projections.
Leg 1: Cooper Kupp 20+ receiving yards
The data case: Kupp is a low-volume option behind Smith-Njigba, averaging three targets per game, but this is a modest threshold to clear for the player with the second-most yards out of this passcatching group, despite ranking fourth in targets.
He has reached 20 receiving yards in three of five games, including 46 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 before coming up short with 13 and 15 yards on 3 total catches across Weeks 4 and 5.
With Denver's safety group thinned out by Hufanga's injury, the intermediate middle of the field should be more open for Kupp and while JSN is the clear top target, he accounts for 40% of this team's receiving yards, not 100%.
Kupp should see a few looks and the Dimers model projects him for 28 receiving yards.
Leg 2: Jaxon Smith-Njigba 90+ receiving yards
The data case: Smith-Njigba leads the league with 583 receiving yards on 37 catches, and he's topped 90 yards in four of five games (122, 155, 128 and 102).
Without Surtain, Denver's top cornerback, the Broncos have no obvious answer for him, and though he's nursing an ankle injury of his own, he was able to play through it vs. the 49ers and with the chance to slip to 3-3 with a loss, this Seattle team is not in a position where they can approach this game with caution.
The Dimers model projects Smith-Njigba for 92 receiving yards, the second-highest total across all games in Week 6, behind only Puka Nacua.
Leg 3: Jaxon Smith-Njigba anytime touchdown
The data case: Unsurprisingly, as the league's top WR in yards, JSN also leads the NFL with seven receiving touchdowns and has scored in four of five games this season, even finding the end zone against the 49ers for the first time in his career despite the ankle injury.
The Dimers model gives Smith-Njigba a 49.9% chance to score, by far the highest on the Seahawks, but that's not the only reason he's worth backing.
That bet a 3.3% edge over his best standalone price of +115, which makes this a High Edge play on its own, the second week in a row in which JSN has popped up with value in our NFL player props.
