NBA Playoffs Bucks vs. Magic: Predictions, picks and bets

August 16, 2020 2:56 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks begin their playoff run against a somewhat depleted, yet dangerous, Orlando Magic team. Giannis and co. have their sights set on a championship but will need to take the first step on that journey in this one.

Best Bet: Magic +12 (-110) has a 55% probability

It's no surprise that the Bucks are the heavily-backed favorites in this game, as they are the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Magic have a number of key players missing, but still have talent in Nikola Vucevic and Evan Fournier. Our model has Orlando at a 55 percent chance to cover, with the spread currently sitting at +12.

No doubt it will be an uphill battle for Orlando, but if they can limit the impact of Giannis Antetokounmpo and potentially get him into foul trouble early, they should be able to stay in the contest.

Moneyline: Magic (+660*) has a 18% probability

As mentioned, Milwaukee are clear favorites in this game, however, it doesn't mean they are the smart Moneyline pick. The Magic are currently +660, and although they are just an 18 percent chance of winning, they are value at that probability and those odds. The Bucks aren't bulletproof and although it's not worth a large wager, a small bet could pay out big.

Over/Under: Over 225 (-110*) has a 51% probability

The playoffs normally mean an increase in defensive intensity around the league, however, if the Magic are going to be competitive in this game, they need to catch fire and take some risks. We're expecting a free-flowing game, with our projections suggesting that there is a 51 percent chance that this one goes over 225 total points.

Dimers' take-out

Just about every expert has the Bucks sweeping this series, and considering the injury report for the Magic, it's hard to disagree. However, Orlando has the ability to cause an upset and if they can stop Giannis from dominating, they should be able to stay in games. Look for them to be competitive in this series opener.
