Only six men's teams will play cricket at LA28, the sport's first Olympic appearance since 1900, and not one of those places has been settled yet. Kalshi's market already lists 27 countries, and some prices look stranger than the rules allow.
The ICC confirmed the men's pathway on June 29, 2026, and it relies almost entirely on rankings. Four places go to the highest-ranked eligible teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania on the ICC Men's T20I rankings as of December 31, 2026, with one team per continent.
The USA gets the host spot, provided it sits inside the top 15 at any point between June 30 and December 31, 2026. Great Britain's claim runs through England's ranking.
The last place comes from an eight-team qualifier. The West Indies can't qualify as one side, so a separate Caribbean event would pick a single National Olympic Committee if the region ranks high enough, and in October that qualifier was reported to be moving to January and February 2028.
Kalshi's market that predicts which countries will qualify for the LA28 men’s cricket tournament before 2028, and it has seen $22,200 in trading volume by October 29. Here are a few of the headline prices at that point:
| Country | Chance |
|---|---|
| Great Britain | 93% |
| Barbados | 85% |
| Guyana | 81% |
| India | 78% |
| South Africa | 77% |
| Zimbabwe | 55% |
| Ireland | 50% |
| Afghanistan | 46% |
| Pakistan | 36% |
| New Zealand | 12% |
| Australia | 2% |
The market has seen a lot of volatility, which isn’t uncommon for sports prediction markets with relatively low trading volume. For a market that has just surpassed the $20,000 mark in volume, even a few thousand dollars entering the market can be enough to drastically change the implied probability of certain outcomes.
For example, Afghanistan had a 99% chance of qualifying on October 24 after market open, just to drop to 60% only two days later. It dropped all the way down to 28% on October 29 before bouncing back up to 46%.
Keep this in mind if you decide to trade here.
Kalshi's rules are specific when it comes to timing. A country's NOC has to receive and accept a place before 2028, verified by the IOC and ESPN, and the market's payout date is January 30, 2028.
The continental berths should land well inside that window. A qualifier in January or February 2028 could hand out its place after the cut-off, a real risk for Caribbean and qualifier hopefuls. Anyone browsing prediction market apps may find this market unusually long-dated for sports contracts.
The year-end rankings snapshot decides four of the six places, so every T20I between now and New Year's Eve counts. Confirmed qualifier dates from the ICC could matter just as much for how this market settles.
