During my time I’ve played at a heap of real money casinos and visited bricks and mortar venues. Sure, they can be fun, and you could walk away with some cash, albeit rarely.
But, in the last few years, I’ve had an epiphany. I’m now a sweepstakes casino convert and I’ve completely ditched RMG. Why? Well, I’ve thought about the subject and compiled my reasons below. RMG and social casinos do share similarities, but it’s their differences that make them the superior choice for me.
Let’s first be clear on what each of them are. With real money casinos, you deposit USD and use that cash to play games with. You can then withdraw your winnings as USD. Social casinos or sweepstakes casinos are free play and deposits are not available. You play using virtual currencies, often called Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins, that you get for free. When you win games playing with Sweeps Coins, you can potentially redeem your winnings for cash prizes too.
Now, with that explained, let’s see why I’ve gone full sweepstakes mode and ditched real money sites! I narrowed it down to 7 main reasons:
The biggest selling point for me is that sweepstakes casinos operate on a ‘no purchase necessary’ basis in order to comply with US sweepstakes regulations. Simply put, this means that you play the casino-style games using only virtual currencies.
The best sweepstakes casinos give you a heap of Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins as a welcome bonus so that you can play the games for free.
I’ve seen many people say that real money casinos have superior game selections but this simply isn’t true. You can see from this complete list of sweeps casinos that most sites offer 900+ casino-style games.
The best sweepstakes casinos have in excess of 1,000 games and they cover the exact same game categories as their RMG counterparts. For example, you can still play video slots, jackpots, single player table games, live dealer games, scratchcards, arcade games, poker, and bingo. Oftentimes, I’ve found that the game selection can be even more varied at social casinos.
The games are also still provided by top software developers that are featured at RMG sites such as Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Relax Gaming, and Habanero.
As I mentioned, no purchase is necessary to play at US social casinos and this is one of the main selling points. However, you CAN purchase optional Gold Coin packages that typically include bonus Sweeps Coins.
I’ve scouted out many of these packages and found that most sweepstakes casinos offer a first purchase bonus. You either get a discounted price or an increased number of Gold Coins, with some bonus Sweeps Coins thrown in for good measure.
You simply don’t get value like this at real money casinos, and the fact that these packages are optional and can start from as little as $2.99 make sweepstakes sites a much more affordable option.
Currently, real money online casinos are only available in six US states including Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. That cuts out a huge percentage of the US population and means RMG is incredibly limited.
In contrast, US sweepstakes regulations mean that most sweepstakes casinos are available in 40+ states. You have to be over 18 to register an account, but it’s far easier to get started. Common states that are prohibited from having sweepstakes casinos are Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and Michigan.
Whenever I’ve registered with a real money casino, I’ve usually collected the welcome bonus and that’s about it. There might be a few monthly deposit bonuses or the chance to get free spins. But, for the most part, RMG casinos are pretty tight when it comes to promotions.
I’ve had the complete opposite experience with sweepstakes casinos. There’s the welcome bonus, daily login bonus, mail-in request bonus, referral schemes, and first purchase bonuses to start with. These are pretty much available at every social casino I’ve tested. You can then usually find VIP clubs and loyalty clubs, slot tournaments, and Sweeps raffles.
In short, sweepstakes casinos are liberal with promotions and you are always getting bombarded with free Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins.
Throughout the years I’ve played at real money casinos, I can’t remember EVER speaking to another player or enjoying a sense of community. Now, I understand that this isn’t for everyone, and some people simply don’t care, but I rather enjoy getting involved with the community and chatting to other players.
I’ve seen that sweepstakes casinos facilitate this much more frequently. For example, at Stake.us there is a live community chat that anyone can use. Most social casinos also have daily and weekly slot tournaments that you can join in and play against other players for GC and SC prizes. Their social media channels are also usually active. There is just more opportunity for engagement with other players - if you’re into that type of thing.
Let’s face it, the more active you are when playing at real money gambling sites, the quicker you drain your deposit money. I’ve been there and done that, and it’s no fun.
In contrast, I’ve found that sweepstakes casinos generally reward activity and make you feel positive about it. For example, if you spend just a few minutes per day logging in, you typically get a decent Gold Coin and Sweeps Coin daily login bonus. Being active on their social media channels also means that you can enter contests and giveaways to get more free coins.
Generally, being more active at sweepstakes casinos is beneficial.
As you can see, sweepstakes casinos have a lot going for them and I believe that you essentially get all the positives of real money casinos, but without the associated dangers and hassle. Sweepstakes casinos by their nature are more protective, and don’t push you down a specific route.
There’s something about being able to play the games I enjoy like blackjack and Crash for free that’s infinitely more rewarding and fun than throwing away hundreds of dollars at real money casinos. If you’ve been feeling jaded recently with RMG, or want to try something different, I recommend giving sweepstakes casinos like Stake.us, WOW Vegas, or Real Prize casino a go - you’ll find the experience fun and refreshing.
