The lowest seed to ever win the NCAA Tournament was a No. 8 seed, a feat accomplished by Villanova in 1985. No team seeded lower than No. 8 has ever won the national championship.

Villanova (No. 8)—1985: The Wildcats pulled off one of the greatest upsets in history, defeating No. 1 Georgetown in the championship game.
UConn (No. 7)—2014: While not the lowest, UConn’s run as a No. 7 seed was one of the most improbable title runs ever.
