Who Will Be the Cover Model for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2027?

The 2026 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue just came out, but there’s already speculation about the 2027 issue. Who will land the cover? A model that’s been featured before or a new talent? This and more are creating unique trading opportunities.

Even before an official announcement, trader activity on prediction markets has designated Haley Kalil, Ella Halikas, and Hunter McGrady as frontrunners. The list aligns with SI Swimsuit’s recent diverse model cover approach under editor-in-chief, MJ Day. So, will it be one of these top models or a rookie who makes the cover, and what does recent history tell us?

How the Race for SI Swimsuit 2027 Is Looking So Far

The 2026 SI Swimsuit issue featured four cover models in what was a surprise twist for one of the longest-running magazines. Tiffany Haddish, Hilary Duff, Nicole Williams English, and Alix Earle all graced the cover with exotic photos shot across the US, Mexico, and Botswana. The reception has been positive with fans and traders on culture prediction markets now eyeing the next issue.

While the former is interested in breakout stars, traders focus on models who are underpriced but whose shares represent value. As it stands, Haley Kalil, a 2018 SI Swim Search contestant, is the overwhelming favorite. Traders on Kalshi give her an implied chance of 65-70% to be on the 2027 cover. She’s in the running with other SI Swimsuit models, Ella Halikas and Hunter McGrady, who close out the top three.

Key Reasons Why the Frontrunners Are Pulling Ahead

The three models mentioned are already setting the pace for who will become the cover model of next year’s issue. But what’s fueling their favorable rating?

Recognizable Personalities

All three models in the lead for the 2027 cover are recognizable personalities. From their online followers to notable modeling events they do, and their role as fashion influencers, they have strong personal brands that appeal to SI Swimsuit’s audience.

Continued Affiliation with SI Swimsuit

Haley’s engagement with SI Swimsuit started in 2018, Ella’s in 2021, while Hunter was featured on the cover of 2024’s Legends issue. These relationships often influence who will be the cover model.

SI Swimsuit’s Inclusivity Approach

In 2026, we saw four cover models from diverse backgrounds. Editor-in-Chief MJ Day pointed out that it’s an approach that SI Swimsuit wants to embrace going forward. Should this happen in 2027, all three models might make it on the magazine’s cover.

What Could Hinder the Favorites from Making It on the Cover?

Each model’s implied chance of making the cover changes with new information. Here are reasons why traders on prediction market apps are not ruling this lineup as a forgone conclusion.

Evolving Editorial Themes

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit consistently updates its themes to keep things fresh and aligned with current trends and issues in the world. As a result, a new theme may require a cover model that offers something different.

Breakout Individual Years

Even though traders have Haley Kalil in the lead, her chances and those of other models can change. This is likely to happen if an athlete, creator, or entertainer has a breakout year and lands the cover.

Possibility of First-Time Cover Models

The publication also often pulls off a surprise by having first-time models on the cover. The emergence of a top model between now and the official announcement could therefore alter things.
