Great Britain’s online casino sector generated £5.7 billion in GGY during 2025-26, up £736 million year-over-year.
Online slots contributed £4.8 billion, representing approximately 84% of remote casino gambling revenue.
Remote casino, betting, and bingo generated £8.3 billion, while new account registrations fell 3% to 32.4 million.
Online casino gaming generated £5.7 billion in gross gambling yield (GGY) in Great Britain during the 2025-26 financial year, according to the latest Gambling Commission industry statistics.
The figure represents an increase of £736 million compared to the previous year, when remote casino GGY stood at approximately £5 billion.
Online slots remained the largest contributor by far, generating £4.8 billion and accounting for around 84% of all remote casino GGY between April 2025 and March 2026.
The figures indicated how important online casino gaming has become to Britain's regulated gambling market.
This Month’s #1 Online Casino
Online casinos form part of the Gambling Commission`s wider Remote Casino, Betting and Bingo (RCBB) category. Combined, those sectors produced £8.3 billion in GGY during 2025-26, an increase 6.9% year over year.
Online casino games contributed £5.7 billion of that total, while remote betting generated another £2.4 billion. Online bingo brought in a considerably smaller amount at £147.8 million.
Remote casinos therefore represented approximately 69% of combined casino, betting and bingo GGY during the financial year. The Gambling Commission defines remote gambling broadly as gambling conducted through methods such as websites, mobile apps, telephones and other forms of remote communication.
For those exploring the regulated market, it's handy to compare casino sites available to UK players, especially those licensed by the Gambling Commission.
Slots continue to dominate online casino spending, since out of the £5.7 billion generated by remote casino games, £4.8 billion came from slots alone.
The latest figure also represents substantial growth from the previous financial year, since Gambling Commission data shows that online slots generated approximately £4.2 billion in GGY during 2024-25.
Quarterly figures show that the momentum continued through the end of the latest reporting period, with remote casino GGY reaching approximately £1.4 billion between April and June 2025, followed by another £1.4 billion from July through September.
It increased to £1.5 billion in the October to December quarter and remained at £1.5 billion during the first three months of 2026. The final quarter`s £1.5 billion represented 68.3% of all remote casino, betting and bingo GGY during that three-month period.
The wider British gambling industry generated £17.5 billion in GGY during 2025-26, up 4.4% from £16.8 billion a year earlier. Excluding lotteries, industry GGY was £13.2 billion.
Unsurprisingly, remote casino, betting and bingo generated considerably more than the combined land-based sectors, with online GGY reaching £8.3 billion while land-based operators produced just £4.9 billion.
Land-based GGY increased by just 1.1% year over year, compared with the remote sector`s 6.9% growth. Physical gambling locations also declined, as the country finished the reporting period with 8081 licensed gambling premises, down 2% from the previous year, with betting shops falling 3.6% to 5617.
The growth in online casino GGY didn't coincide with growth across every customer metric. In fact, new account registrations with online casino, betting and bingo operators fell 3% to 32.4 million during 2025-26.
The Gambling Commission recorded 25.7 million active accounts at the end of the final reporting period. This number represents account figures rather than a count of individual gamblers, since one player can hold accounts with multiple operators.
Operators also held £886.6 million in player funds at the end of the reporting period, down 13.9% compared with the same point a year earlier.
For players, this means the remote gambling market will no doubt still continue to evolve as established operators expand their libraries and additional brands enter and provide more competition.
Our guide to new UK online casinos tracks recently launched options in the country and compares them with more established brands.
