Mexico Open at Vidanta Betting Preview

An odd field for a PGA Tour event heads to Mexico this weekend, headlined by world number one Jon Rahm and his American counterpart Tony Finau. Rahm won here last year, and he opened as the shortest favorite since Tiger Woods all the way back in 2013. When Rahm won last season, hew as a +450 favorite, and this year he is as low as +260. But you can't blame anyone backing Rahm, as he is clearly the best player in the world right now, let alone the best player in this depleted field.

So with all that said, should you still back Jon Rahm at such a short price?

Dimers' Golf H2H Matchup Tool compares our model's head-to-head probabilities for golfers competing in the current PGA Tour tournament. Choose your players and switch between Fair Odds or Percentages.

Best Bets to Win the Mexico Open at Vidanta

In simple terms, yes you should still back Jon Rahm to win! Not only is he coming off his victory at the Masters, his run of tournament performances this season is the most dominant stretch we have seen since Tiger Woods' best days. With only one other "star" golfer in the field, Rahm is clearly the best in class this weekend. At a course he is familiar with, and is the defending champion at, there's no reason not to expect the dominance to continue.

Even though the odds are short, the DimersBOT's favorite play at the Mexico Open is Jon Rahm to win, at +260 odds. Our model gives Rahm a 34.3% probability of being crowned champion on Sunday. But that's not the only bet we like.

We mentioned the second superstar in the field - Tony Finau. Rahm wasn't the only golfer who performed well at the Mexico Open last season, as Finau finished runner-up to Rahm. Finau is +850 to win the tournament, which DimersBOT believes is a good bet, as Finau has the second-highest probability in the field to win at 14.0%.

But we recommend betting Tony Finau to finish in the Top 5 (+180). Finau's form is due for a wake up call, and as one of the clear two best players in the tournament, there's no better time than now to bring his best stuff. Finau should make a statement, even if Rahm pulls away to win. DimersBOT gives Finau a 43.1% chance of finishing in the Top 5 this weekend.
