2023 MLB World Series Predictions

For those unfamiliar with our annual futures predictions article, at the beginning of each MLB season our Dimers predictive analytics model simulates the season 10,000 times to try and uncover which team exactly will be the one taking home the coveted Commissioner’s Trophy at year’s end.

After the simulations are run, each team is assigned a probability of their chances of winning the World Series, relative to how they performed in the data model simulations. We then take those probabilities, compare them to the various sportsbook odds available and find three teams that have the biggest differential in odds compared to our probabilities. That's where the real value lies.

That then forms the basis of the plays we're rolling with for the year, as set out below.

Atlanta Braves to win the World Series

  • Dimers' probability to win the World Series: 17.4%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +475
  • Current best available odds: +750 with BetMGM

While it's the Houston Astros who are favorite with the 'books to go back-to-back in 2023, our prediction model is on the previous year's World Series champions in the Atlanta Braves to claim the holy grail once again. The Braves are loaded with talent with the likes of Matt Olson, Ronald Acuna Jr, Austin Riley and Ozzie Albies all capable of putting run pressure on opposition defenses, as well solid pitching stocks headlined by Max Fried and Charlie Morton, one thing that is for sure is that this will be a team that is once again there or thereabouts deep into the postseason.

St. Louis Cardinals to win the World Series

  • Dimers' probability to win World Series: 7.2%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +1290
  • Current best available odds: +2000 with BetMGM

The Cards had a strong regular season in 2022, winning their division before being bundled out in a two-game sweep against the eventual NL Champion Phillies. With the disappointment of that series no doubt still burning, we're expecting another great year out of the Cardinals, ranking them a way better chance to win the World Series than what the sportsbooks are giving them.

While they did lose the juggernaut that is Albert Pujols to retirement, they've added some very nice pieces including Willson Contreras and were able to retain ace Jordan Montgomery, as well as re-sign stalwart starting pitcher Adam Wainwright. That's in addition to the reigning NL MVP Paul Goldschmidt.

In a relatively weak Central Division with only the Milwaukee Brewers expected to challenge for the division title, there are a multitude of reasons to be excited about the prospects of St. Louis in 2023.

LA Angels to win the World Series

  • Dimers' Probability to win World Series: 4.5%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +2122
  • Current best available odds: +4500 with BetMGM

The Angels have arguably the best player on the planet right now in Shohei Ohtani, and another guy who was the guy before him in Mike Trout - so why are the Angels always underachieving? This is a make-or-break year for the Halos who could lose the Japanese god if they fail to match expectations again this season, but our model is backing them to find a breakthrough. In addition to Ohtani and Trout, the Angels have added Brandon Drury and Hunter Renfroe to their offense, and have also landed pitcher Tyler Anderson who is coming off a career-best year with cross-city rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is about as prime as Anaheim has been since Shohei Ohtani has become the superstar that he is, and they might be just about ready to come good.
