MLB Betting Insights 07/27/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

It’s only a three-game winning streak, but when two of those come on the road against the red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers, it’s time to give the struggling Washington Nationals some props.

The Nats got wins from Andres Machado and Erasmo Ramirez at Dodger Stadium the past two nights and will go for the unlikeliest of sweeps this afternoon with veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin (4-13) on the mound.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

For today, you can call them the last-place Boston Red Sox. That’s right. The Sox are giving up runs in bunches and rumors are swirling J.D. Martinez and others could be available for trade.

Last night, the Sox were lit up for eight runs by the Cleveland Guardians on the way to losing for the eighth time in 10 games. Boston has allowed at least eight runs in five of its last seven and sits at 49-49, a half-game behind the Baltimore Orioles for fourth in the A.L. East.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

After his bat was pretty much silent over the first three months of the season, Arizona catcher Carson Kelly has been one of the hottest hitters in the National League in July.

Over his last 57 at-bats, he has 21 hits for a .368 average, four homers and 12 RBIs. That’s a huge improvement considering his first 90 at-bats added up to one homer, six RBIs and a .175 average. He has a tough match-up this afternoon against the San Francisco Giants’ Logan Webb.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Washington 2B Cesar Hernandez has done nothing as of late to boost his trade value heading into next week’s deadline. He’s 14-for-81 dating back to the last day of June for a .173 clip with no homers, three RBIs and 18 strikeouts.

His power has completely disappeared as he’s still in search of his first long-ball of 2022 after smacking 21 homers last season between stints with Cleveland and the Chicago White Sox.

MLB Players Born on July 27

Brad Keller

Brad Keller gets the nod for the Royals this afternoon on his 27th birthday and will try to continue to make things miserable for the Los Angeles Angels. Keller broke out of the gate this season in strong fashion but has since tailed off, taking a record of 5-10 with a 4.16 ERA into today’s game.

He has a career record of 34-45 and has not faced the Angels yet this season.

Drew Rasmussen

Another starting pitcher, Tampa Bay Rays righty Drew Rasmussen, takes the mound on his 27th birthday. Rasmussen has only 15 career decisions (11-4), but he’s been much more effective this year.

Going into tonight’s game at Baltimore, Rasmussen is 6-3 with a 3.13 ERA with 66 strikeouts in just over 77 innings.

Jeter Downs

Traded twice since he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round in 2017, Boston rookie infielder Jeter Downs turns 24 today and will look to celebrate against Cleveland at Fenway Park. Downs, who made his major league debut June 22, is finding how difficult it can be to face big-league pitching. He’s 5-for-36 with one homer and 5 RBIs.
