Which MLB team is hot right now?

On the outside looking in at a wild-card spot coming out of the All-Star break, the Philadelphia Phillies exit the All-Star break looking to build on a three-game winning streak that saw them allow just 1 run in a sweep of the Marlins.

Kyle Gibson, who outdueled Miami ace Sandy Alcantara in that series opener, is back on the hill tonight as the Phillies (49-43) host the Cubs looking to move closer to a playoff spot.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

It might be hot and humid throughout Florida, but the Miami Marlins are ice cold. An 8-0 home loss to Texas yesterday afternoon was the Marlins’ fourth straight defeat and third consecutive game without a run — tying a franchise record for offensive futility.

Heading into tonight’s matchup against Jose Quintana and the Pirates in Pittsburgh, the Marlins have scored just 1 run in 36 innings.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Despite missing the last few games prior to the All-Star break with lightheadedness, Luis Robert was swinging a hot stick for the Chicago White Sox. He’s 17 for 40 (.425 average) over the past two weeks with 4 homers, 14 RBIs and 11 runs.

The hot streak has lifted his batting average on the season over the .300 mark. If he’s ready to go tonight against Cleveland’s Cal Quantrill, it’s a good idea to ride the wave.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Since the calendar has flipped to July, the temperature in Texas has reached triple digits in major metro areas. However, the bat of Kole Calhoun has been ice cold. The veteran lefty outfielder is 6 for his last 44 (.136) with a sub-.200 on-base percentage, one homer and 5 RBIs.

Still, he has knocked in 41 runs on the season and could make for a breakout daily fantasy play against a weak right-handed pitcher.

MLB Players Born on July 22

Jose Siri

Considered one of Houston’s top prospects, Jose Siri has bounced between the big club and AAA this season after opening some eyes in 21 games a year ago. Siri had 4 homers, 9 RBIs and swiped three bases while hitting .304 in only 49 plate appearances in 2021.

He turns 27 on Friday and is looking to stick with the Astros following a demotion last month. He’s hitting just .178 over 48 games with 3 homers and 10 RBIs but does have 6 steals.

Tanner Scott

Through his first four major league campaigns, lefty reliever Tanner Scott recorded one save in 168 appearances with Baltimore. Traded to Miami prior to this season, he’s emerged as the closer for the Marlins and has done a so-so job, saving 12 of 18 with a 4.42 ERA.
He also has a record of 4-3 with 57 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings. He turns 28 Friday and will hope to get a save opportunity in Pittsburgh.
