MLB Betting Insights 08/19/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

The NL-Central leading St. Louis Cardinals begin an 8-game road trip tonight in Arizona where they hope to stay as hot as the desert after sweeping Colorado to start the week.

The Cards are 7-3 in their last 10 games and the upcoming schedule presents a great opportunity to step on the gas and build a bigger cushion over Milwaukee, which sits 3 games behind. After facing the Diamondbacks, St. Louis heads to Wrigley Field for five matchups with the Cubs.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

The Kansas City Royals have some intriguing young talent on the roster, but also still too many holes. Once again as the second half of August is underway, the Royals are simply playing out the schedule.

Last night they suffered a fourth straight defeat and sit 24 games under .500 with 42 to go. Pitching (4.68 ERA) is once again Kansas City’s crutch. However, lately it has been the offense. The bats have produced just one run over the last three games and can’t be expected to do much tonight in Tampa.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Do you think San Diego 3B Manny Machado is enjoying the new additions surrounding him in the Padres’ lineup? Following on-base machine Juan Soto and with switch-hitting Josh Bell a spot or two behind, Machado has been feasting.

He’s riding a 13-for-29 tear (.448 avg.) since Aug. 11 with 2 homers and 9 RBIs, boosting his average on the year to over .300. He has 22 homers and 74 RBIs heading into tonight’s matchup against Washington and Paolo Espino.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Miami rookie OF J.J. Bleday was the fourth-overall selection of the 2019 draft after a storied career at Vanderbilt. He’s gone deep three times in his first 25 games in the big leagues following a callup last month, but aside from that he’s struggled in his first view of the highest level of pitching.

Bleday is 2-for-27 (.074) over the past week and hitting .200 in 85 official at-bats with 28 strikeouts. If you can catch him on the right day, he could pay off big. He’ll face Tyler Anderson of the Dodgers tonight in L.A.
