Braves vs. Cardinals Best Bets

Friday, August 26, 2022 - 8:15PM ET

PICK: Atlanta Braves at St. Louis Cardinals Over 7.5 (+100)

PICK: Paul Goldschmidt Over 1.5 Total Bases (+135)

Two National League heavyweights begin a 3 game weekend series tonight as the Atlanta Braves visit the St. Louis Cardinals. The Braves currently sit 2 games back of the New York Mets for first place in the National League East. If you haven't already signed up for BetMGM, this is the perfect time to do so by clicking ➡️ here ⬅️ for $20 free a risk-free bet up to $1,000!

Atlanta does hold the top Wild Card spot as they have a comfortable 7.5 game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cardinals are atop the National League Central with a 6 game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers. This game features 2 of the top 4 offenses in the league and 2 MVP candidates in Austin Riley and Paul Goldschmidt.

Atlanta will send right hander Spencer Strider to the mound in the opener. Strider is having a fine rookie season as he has an ERA of 2.95 and a WHIP of 1.02. On the road, his ERA does bubble to 3.48.

St. Louis hits righties well at home, averaging 4.96 runs per game and with a batting average of .252. St. Louis will counter with Jose Quintana. The Left hander has a 3.45 ERA on the season with a 1.27 WHIP in combined action with the Cardinals and the Pirates.

In 4 starts with St. Louis, he has an ERA of 3.20 and a WHIP of 1.42. The Braves love hitting lefties as they are averaging 4.95 runs per game on the road against southpaws and have an average of .272.

Both of these bullpens are very good as their ERAs are in the top half of the majors, despite that I think this total is a run too low and I'll back the over at even money.

I am also going to back Paul Goldschmidt to hit his total bases prop. He is 1/3 with a double against Strider this season. Goldie also has had success this season against Striders 2 main pitches, Fastball and Slider.

Against the Fastball he has an average of .306 and an ISO of .279. Against the Slider he has an average of .293 and an ISO of .232. He has also hit this mark in 33/59 home games including each of the last 3.

We should see an offensive night in St. Louis tonight, led by the Cardinals slugger, so bet the Total Runs Over 7.5 (+100) and Paul Goldschmidt Over 1.5 Total Bases (+135) with BetMGM ➡️ here ⬅️ and claim an awesome new customer bonus while you're at it - including a $20 free bet, just for signing up!
