Washington vs. UCLA Analysis

The Spread

Our DimersBOT likes the Bruins to cover in this game and it's pretty easy to see why. While the Huskies have looked unbeatable early in the season — they're 4-0 both straight-up and against the spread — it's worth noting that they haven't played anybody good. Of course, the same can be said for UCLA, but we know that this Bruins team is talented. And Washington won't have the luxury of playing this game at home, like it did in wins over Michigan State and Stanford.

This is actually the first road game that the Huskies have played all year, so this is going to be an entirely new experience for this group. And the Bruins are the first team that they've played all year that have more firepower than them.

MORE: CFB Futures Probabilities

UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson is arguably the best quarterback in this conference, and his ability to make plays with his legs is going to make him very tough for Washington stop. But the Bruins also happen to have running back Zach Charbonnet, who is one of the best backs in the country. He has rushed for 293 yards and four touchdowns early in the year and could dice up the Huskies on Friday. Charbonnet played out of his mind against Colorado last week, rushing for 104 yards and three scores on only nine carries.

Also, outside of a really lousy performance against South Alabama two weeks ago, the Bruins have also looked pretty sharp on the defensive side of the ball. They might not be able to totally shut down Michael Penix Jr. and a Huskies offense that is on fire right now, but they have the ability to come up with some big stops — especially with the crowd giving them adrenaline here.

Under Chip Kelly, UCLA also happens to be 5-2-1 against the spread as an underdog of 3.5 to 10 points. The Bruins are also 6-0 both straight-up and ATS when coming off back-to-back games that went Over the total in that span. That means that Kelly will hope to have his defense tighten things up at least a little here.

The Over/Under

Washington is currently fifth in the nation in total yards per game, while UCLA isn't too far behind in 11th. Both squads are in the top 20 in points per game, with the two combining to score an average of 85.6 points per game. These defenses are obviously much better than the ones these schools have faced earlier in the year, but it'd be foolish to expect anything but a high-scoring game here.

Both of these offenses like to play with real pace and both have quarterbacks that can turn nothing into something. So, while we don't think this is a lock or anything, we do lean pretty heavily towards backing the Over in this game. The Over is 3-1 in Washington's four games this year, and 5-1-1 in the seven games that UCLA has played against opponents with winning percentages of 75% or higher under Kelly.

Washington vs. UCLA Best Bet

UCLA +3.5

This is a game that we do think will turn into something of a shootout, but we're a lot more confident in the Bruins covering and even winning outright. UCLA doesn't generally pack the Rose Bowl, but the fans should show up and get loud for this one. And that energy should be enough to give the Bruins the juice they need to take this one.

We strongly suggest taking this with the DraftKings bet $5 to get $150 offer mentioned at the top of this article because, even if the Bruins don't cover, new customers still get $150 just for joining and placing a successful $5 moneyline bet on the gameYou can claim it ➡️ here ⬅️.
