BetMGM Bettors Like Rory McIlroy to Win the 2022 US Open and be First Round Leader
Last updated: | Published:The 122nd US Open Golf Championship tees off Thursday from The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, and while plenty of big names and recent tournament winners crowd the list of favorites to be at the top of the leaderboard when the tournament concludes on Sunday, who will be on top after Thursday’s round one is a much more wide-open proposition.
2022 US Open Golf Odds
Rory McIlroy is the favorite in BetMGM books as of Tuesday morning, coming in at +1100, trailed by Justin Thomas at +1200, Jon Rahm at +1400 and Scottie Scheffler at +1400.
Wire-to-wire winners at the US Open are rare but BetMGM bettors like McIlroy to go wire-to-wire. The last player to achieve that feat Martin Kayman in 2014 and the time before that, by McIlroy in 2011.

Perhaps it’s that history from 11 years ago at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, when McIlroy ran away from the field by 8 strokes, that has bettors thinking the 33-year-old from Northern Ireland, fresh off a victory at the RBC Canadian Open last weekend, can repeat the wire-to-wire feat.
BetMGM reports 4.8% of the ticket for First Round Leader and an even more impressive 13.6% of the handle is coming in on McIlroy.
The 4.8% ticket take is matched by Cameron Young, while trailing McIlroy in terms of handle is Jordan Spieth at 7.8%.
Spieth, who became the youngest U.S. Open champion in 108 years with his win at Chambers Bay Golf Course in Tacoma, Washington in 2015, is third in ticket take for First Round Leader, according to BetMGM, at 4.2%.
