The White Sox have nosedived since being eliminated from contention for playoff baseball, losing eight straight games, including the last two to the Twins on back-to-back nights in which Minnesota were dominant. Today we have two costly pitchers on the bump with Louie Varland (0-2, 5.06 ERA) getting the start for the Twins, while the White Sox will counter with Lucas Giolito (10-9, 5.05 ERA). Orioles vs. Red Sox, 1:35PM ET

The Red Sox have arrested the slide over the past couple of nights with two straight wins over the Orioles at home, the latest coming last night with a 3-1 win - a game that has bucked the trend of this high scoring series. We're expecting the runs to come back into vogue this afternoon with Nathan Eovaldi (5-3, 4.15 ERA) and Mike Baumann (1-3, 4.32 ERA) getting the start. Eovaldi has been better as of late with a 2.95 ERA across his last three outings, but this Red Sox offense has been prolific in this series and are more than capable of putting up a big score.

Phillies vs. Cubs, 2:20PM ET

The Phillies suddenly find themselves in a dogfight with the Brewers for the final Wild Card spot in the American League after four consecutive losses and they could well and truly open the door with another tough match up against the Cubs today. Starting on the bump for the Phils will be Ranger Suarez (10-5, 3.38 ERA), and while his overall season numbers look impressive, he's been awful on the road this season with Philadelphia losing each of their last four road games where Suarez has started. The Cubs have had a year to forget, but they'll be full of confidence today after winning each of their last five encounters with the Phillies. Don't be surprised to see them keep things tight.
