Why trade on LSU vs. Kentucky in Week 6
Few stories in college football this season have been better than Will Stein's Kentucky Wildcats, and they get a major statement opportunity under the lights at Kroger Field on Saturday night against Lane Kiffin and No. 10 LSU.
Kentucky is 4-1 and coming off a 35-34 overtime win at South Carolina, where it erased a 17-0 deficit for the largest road comeback in program history, also cashing our Trade of the Day pick in the process. Stein is now the first Kentucky coach to win his first two SEC road games and the first to start 4-1 in his debut season since 1946.
The last time LSU went on the road at night in a big spot, it didn't go well. Kiffin's return to Oxford ended in a 32-24 loss to Ole Miss, and the Tigers' offense never traveled. That game carried more pressure and animosity than this one will, but a sold-out Kroger Field at night is a similar test, and LSU hasn't won in Lexington since the 2002 "Bluegrass Miracle."
Kentucky's offense under Stein has been very successful. Kenny Minchey threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns against South Carolina, and the Wildcats rank higher in offensive success rate nationally than LSU this season.
LSU is the more talented roster on paper, but the data reveals which side the true value lies on.
Week 6 Trade of the Day: Kentucky +8.5 vs. LSU
- Dimers probability: 54%
- Polymarket trading price: 51%
- Edge on Polymarket: 3%
LSU is favored to win this matchup with Kentucky, but the Dimers model identifies the Wildcats as undervalued.
While the Tigers are the clear favorite to win outright, they're priced higher than that. Their -330 moneyline implies a win probability of about 76.7%, which is almost five points above our model's 71.8%.
In the spread market, our model gives Kentucky a 54% chance of covering +8.5, and on Polymarket the Wildcats are trading at 51%, so we have a 3% edge over the market price.
Kentucky covers if it wins outright or loses by eight or fewer, and our predicted final score of LSU 29, Kentucky 23 keeps the Wildcats not only inside that number, but inside a full touchdown, and that makes the Wildcats with the points our trade of the week.
