Brad, from the Dimers Summer Intern program, dives into the three best sports that you can bet on as a casual sports bettor.

Sports Betting, Player Props, Sports, MLB, Shohei Ohtani

Obviously if you love to watch and bet on sports, any league or bet will give you the satisfaction and experience you are looking for (some people may call that degeneracy but don't worry, you're among friends here). But with all that said, when it comes down to it, some sports are just so much more fun to sweat than others. Whether that be the atmosphere, competition level, or just sheer experience, some sports and leagues stand out in the sports betting world.

I'm breaking down the top three sports for casual bettors to bet on.

The Three Most Enjoyable Sports to Bet On

1. NFL

The blend of intensity, high-stakes, and watching experience that happens every week of the NFL season is why it is unmatched when compiling a list of the most enjoyable sports for fans to bet on. The scarcity of games compared to the likes of the NBA, NHL or MLB gives fans an eagerness and excitement to get to game day, building anticipation and allowing bettors time to dig into stats, trends, injuries, and line movement, making every Sunday feel like an event.

Mix in the player prop yardage and touchdown bets with the straight game lines, there nothing better than to sit and sweat on the couch with your friends all Sunday every week. Add in fantasy football and daily fantasy leagues, there’s always something to track, cheer for, or live bet, even late into the fourth quarter. The NFL’s massive national spotlight means there’s a flood of expert analysis, public opinion, and sharp money to follow (or fade), giving fans a massive volume of strategy and discussion to follow.

And let’s be honest – no sport delivers last-minute chaos quite like football. Big plays, bold swings, and last-second covers or heartbreaks makes betting the NFL an adrenaline rush from kickoff to the final whistle.

2. College Basketball

College Basketball brings some of the fastest pace action, craziest momentum swings, and seemingly unlimited betting opportunities all season long for sports bettors to get some action on. Add that to the incredible storylines and betting atmosphere of the conference tournaments and March Madness, many may argue that NCAA tournament time is the peak sports betting experience of the year.

The greatest thing about college basketball is the unpredictability and variety. Small schools and mid-majors constantly fly under the radar and knowledgeable and savvy bettors often take their shot at outsmarting the sportsbooks with their deep knowledge and sharp analysis. The storylines and Cinderella runs that happen every March are some of the most fun teams to bet on all year. You’re telling me a mid-major team led by an unranked fifth year senior is playing a team with multiple projected NBA first round picks? Count me in.

3. MLB

Major League Baseball is no doubt one of the most dynamic and exciting betting experiences for fans. Some may argue with that view completely but the incredible number of 162 games in the regular season for teams, bringing a variety of games every single day all summer for fans to bet on, makes up for the fact that other major leagues like the NHL, NFL, and NBA are all in their offseason. This provides an endless stream of daily betting opportunities, perfect for those who love consistent action and strategy.

The analytics part of baseball gambling is also something that is unlike any other sport. From batting splits, pitcher matchups, ballpark factors, and other other technical stats like expected batting average, sports bettors can really dive into the data to find an edge that isn’t always reflected in lines. Also, the variety of different props and overall things to bet on for an MLB game, whether that be strikeouts, home runs, RBIs, stolen bases, and even just the typical moneylines and totals, there is always something for gamblers to find and sweat in a baseball game.

Regardless of the data or the sheer number of games for sports bettors to indulge, the best part by far in MLB betting is the in-person experience. Going to a baseball game and watching a player you bet on hit a home run is one of the best experiences in all of sports betting, with very few things rivalling that experience.
