What is the Mr Beast casino app?
Let’s break down the facts. The Instagram ads for the Mr Beast casino app displayed to users were created using deepfake technology for the visuals, and AI-generated audio for the vocals. All videos followed the same format. The video began with a popular cable news host appearing to talk about a Mr Beast casino app. This was followed by excerpts of interviews with celebrities and Mr Beast. At the end of the video, the same cable news host suggested the viewer should click on an app download link.
Various versions of the scam video made it appear as if CNN anchor Laura Coates, or FOX News anchors Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity, were broadcasting a message about Mr Beast's alleged casino app on prime time television.
How it went down…
In the fraudulent video ads, deepfake technology and AI-generated audio made it appear as if Coates, Ingraham, or Hannity had said the following words:
“The richest man on the internet, who has paid the bills of hundreds of thousands of people around the world, decided to open his own online casino where everyone wins. In one of his videos, he showed us his safe which stores funds for all players of his online casino. And in an interview with another famous blogger, MrBeast told about his motives."
Next, the video showed actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, "the divisive social media star" Andrew Tate, or Tyler Toney the “Dude Perfect” podcast host with each making a deepfake and AI-powered Mr Beast Casino app recommendation.
Depending on the video, the scammers made it appear as if Johnson, Tate or Toney were saying:
“I installed an app from MrBeast on my phone. The thing is, I didn't put more than $50 into it. I lost count of how many times I won money there. One hour after installing it, I earned $4,000. And here's the interesting thing: I almost never lost. What's the point? Why create a game like this?”
