US Open Best Bets: Top Tennis Picks for Wednesday

Tommy Paul vs. Sebastian Korda - Day session (scheduled for 2:30PM ET)

This meeting between Paul and Korda looks like a bit of a trap by the oddsmakers. Korda is the more talented player and is 3-0 in this head-to-head series, yet he still finds himself as only a small favorite in this one. For that reason, we're going to fade the easy pick as much as possible by backing Paul.

Instead of just taking Paul to win outright, we're going with a bit worse odds to protect ourselves in the event that Paul loses in the fifth set. But all in all, we'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't get the job done in this spot.

Paul's just a really solid player and comes into this event with some real confidence after having earned wins over guys like Carlos Alcaraz and Marin Cilic in the month of August. And while he isn't exactly the most trustworthy player in the world to bet on — he can occasionally struggle when he is expected to win — he is a little more level-headed on the court than Korda is. That will matter in a high-pressure match like this one. Paul has also been pushed to the brink of defeat already this tournament, as he won a five-set match in the opening round. That should actually allow him to play a little more freely in this one. He'll also be really eager to finally get in the win column against Korda.

PICK: Paul to win at least two sets, which you can get at -175 with DraftKings.

Aleksandra Krunic vs. Barbora Krejcikova - Day session (scheduled for 4:30PM ET)

This is less of a play on Krunic and more of a play against Krejcikova, who just hasn't looked anything like a former Grand Slam champion since the start of 2022. After going 44-18 in tour-level matches in 2021, Krejcikova is just 16-14 this season. She's also just 3-4 on hard courts since getting back on the surface in July.

Krunic also happens to be 6-4 in her last 10 matches, so she is playing some decent tennis. And the reality is that her level just doesn't need to be that high in order for her to compete in this one, and that's why we're taking her to cover the 5.5-game spread in this match.

PICK: Krunic +5.5 Games, which you can get at -165 with DraftKings.

Leylah Fernandez vs. Liudmila Samsonova - Day session (scheduled for 5:00PM ET)

Samsonova is one of the hottest players on the planet right now, as she has won 11 matches in a row and picked up titles in back-to-back tournaments in doing so. Those weren't exactly small events either, with the Citi Open in Washington D.C actually being a pretty big one.

Fernandez, meanwhile, is just 2-3 in her last five matches and it's pretty hard to see how she'll defeat her opponent in this one. One thing that is for certain is that Fernandez will have the crowd on her side in this match. However, it's a little hard to see that mattering with the way Samsonova is playing at the moment. Samsonova's serve has just been untouchable in recent weeks, and she has the power required to outmuscle Fernandez, who packs more punch than you'd think when seeing her size.

The DimersBOT is high on Samsonova to win this one too, as our predictive analytics model gives her a 56% chance of winning this match.

PICK: Samsonova To Win, which you can get at -150 with DraftKings.

Serena Williams vs. Anett Kontaveit - Night session (scheduled for 7:00PM ET)

We faded Williams in her first match in New York and it didn't go that well, but it was clear in watching that one that a better opponent would have handled her with ease. Williams won some high-pressure points against Danka Kovinic, but she didn't look like she was moving much better than in recent outings and her serve is no longer the dominant force it once was.

Kontaveit might not be playing her best tennis at the moment, but she is the second-ranked player in the world and this is her favorite playing surface. So, even if she's not at her absolute peak, we do think she will do a good enough job of moving Williams around in this match. She should also do a lot better with her serve than Kovinic did, and that was really the difference maker in that Williams win: Kovinic gave Williams too many free points when the ball was on her racquet.

This one doesn't require too much digging. Williams is the greatest to ever do it, but she's not the same player she used to be and she's likely going out here.

PICK: Kontaveit -2.5 Games, which you can get at -155 with DraftKings.
