US Open Best Bets: Top Tennis Picks for Friday

Tommy Paul vs. Casper Ruud - Day session (scheduled for 12:30PM ET)

This match-up features an American that is going to have the crowd trying to do everything it can to will him to a victory, but it's a little hard to envision Paul finding a way to cover such a small spread in this match. For starters, Ruud is a better all-around player than he is, and that is true of pretty much every aspect of the game. But Ruud also happens to have a significant advantage in the rest department here.

While Ruud has played only seven total sets at this tournament, Paul is coming off of back-to-back five-set matches. The last one was particularly grueling and emotional, with Paul having defeated Sebastian Korda for the first time in four tries. With that in mind, Paul could be in for something of an emotional letdown here. But he is also just going to have some tired legs eventually. We expect Ruud to take advantage of that and roll to a win here. We would take the moneyline at -170, but 2.5 games is nothing over the course of a best-of-five match.

PICK: Ruud -2.5 Games, which you can get at -140 with DraftKings.

Madison Keys vs. Cori Gauff - Day session (scheduled for 2:00PM ET)

This match-up might be a meeting between two Americans, but we're likely to see the crowd choose Gauff as their favorite. And while that makes this something of an uphill climb for Keys, it's just hard not to roll with the 27-year-old and her advantage in experience — and as a server.

While Gauff has made significant strides with her game this year, she's still a player that can occasionally struggle to make things easy on herself when the ball is on her racquet. Her hold percentage of 69.5% is a really low number, and it's just hard to see that not coming into play against Keys. The 27-year-old is one of the best servers on tour when she is on her game, and it's hard not to like what we've seen out of her in New York thus far.

This is obviously a risky pick in a lot of ways, as Gauff is probably the better baseline player between the two. But she still needs to mature as a player, and we think Keys has a good opportunity to advance. As a plus-money play, the value is definitely there.

PICK: Keys to win, which you can get at +125 with DraftKings.

Bianca Andreescu vs. Caroline Garcia - Night session (scheduled for 7:00PM ET)

There aren't many players in the world that are playing better than Garcia right now, as the Frenchwoman took home a title in Cincinnati after having also won in Warsaw a few weeks earlier. All in all, she has just been firing on all cylinders, but we still find it hard to lay off of Andreescu in this situation.

Andreescu won the US Open back in 2019 and she's a top-five player on the planet when she is healthy. And while it's hard to say she's at 100% health right now, she's definitely beginning to look more and more like her usual self as we get later in the 2022 season. The Canadian certainly looked like she's feeling well in her match against Beatriz Haddad Maia, who she was able to earn a 6-2, 6-4 win over last round. That match also took only an hour and 29 minutes.

Garcia is also a player that could begin to hit a wall at some point. She has played a ton of matches recently, and that can eventually catch up to you. If she isn't at her absolute best, Andreescu's power will be too much for her to deal with.

PICK: Andreescu To Win, which you can get at +110 with DraftKings.
