Scottie in Scotland: Heavy Betting Action on Scheffler to Win The Open

A significant chunk of online bettors are banking on Scottie Scheffler this week at The Open Championship at St. Andrews, Scotland, to regain the magic that he displayed in winning the Masters.

According to BetRivers and PlaySugarHouse, Scheffler, sixth on the futures oddsboard at +1800 to take The Open title at St Andrews, Scotland, has drawn 8.6 percent of the money and accounts for 7 percent of wagers placed. Both are the highest of any player in the field.

The American made his debut on the British leg of the Grand Slam last year by finishing eighth at Royal St. George’s.

Rory McIlroy, favored in The Open at +1000, has pulled in the next highest amounts — 8.2 percent of the handle, 6.6 percent of tickets.

Xander Schauffele, second on the board at +1400, has not attracted much support. With four percent of the money, he stands 10th in that category and is eighth on wagers at 3.5 percent.

Many bettors are counting on the old Tiger Woods to resurface. A longshot at +8000 in the twilight of his career, Woods has brought in the third most money at 6.3 percent and the fifth most tickets at 4.3 percent.

Woods is also the subject of the largest recorded wager with the sportsbooks:  $5,000 at -150 to make the cut).

Two other fairly high-odds entrants are popular, too.

Justin Thomas (+2200) represents 5.7 percent of the handle, the fourth highest rate. Will Zalatoris (+2500) has generated 5.7 percent of wagers, the third highest portion, and 5.5 percent of the money, the fifth most.

Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm and Matthew Fitzpatrick share the third spot on the odds list at +1600. Of those, Rahm has sparked the most action, with 4.5 percent of tickets purchased.

Just below Scheffler are Shane Lowry at odds of +2000, followed by Thomas and Patrick Cantlay at +2500.

Among the prop bet offerings, none has lured more wagers than No Hole In One at -133. The previous 149 Opens have seen 35 aces, though there have been a pair in the last two editions.

DimersBOT Suggested Bet: Patrick Cantlay +2500, 5.1% chance to win.
