PGA Tour Expert Picks: Travelers Championship Predictions & Best Bets

It wasn't quite the finish we hoped for, with four of our Top-20 picks all in play on Day 3 before slipping behind before watching Wyndham Clark, who was our best Top-20 pick finish in style with his first major victory, knocking aside our outright winners in the process. It's not the way you want to see your Top-20 bet cash, but our model has been in love with Clark lately and it's nice to see it come to fruition with his second victory in as many months.

Heading to TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT, we'll see the best golfers from the PGA TOUR compete in this elevated event, with a total purse of $20 million.

We have a handful of Best Bets worth taking, let's dive in. Also, make sure you visit Dimers all golf season, where we'll be feeding you our PGA best bets on a weekly basis. These PGA predictions are made with our predictive analytics model and world-class artificial intelligence, and our data has already found some nice edges to start the year.

Dimers' Golf H2H Matchup Tool compares our model's head-to-head probabilities for golfers competing in the current PGA Tour tournament. Choose your players and switch between Fair Odds or Percentages.

Travelers Championship Betting Preview

The Travelers Championship will take place at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT. This course has been a host of the PGA TOUR for thirty years. A Pete Dye design that runs relatively short when compared to other courses on tour, it totals 6,841 yards as a par-70. Xander Schauffele is the reigning champion and three-time winner Bubba Watson has since joined LIV, so he'll be absent from the field.

Our model's most likely winners are no surprise as usual; Scottie Scheffler has been the best golfer over the past two years and Jon Rahm has been just behind him for most of that same period. As usual, we will examine the full board to find our best outright winners and placement bets.

Best Bets to Win the Travelers Championship

Scottie Scheffler (+600)

The outright favorite in more than a handful of tournaments this year, including multiple majors, Scottie Scheffler is the World No. 1 for a reason. He's netted four straight T3 or better and has eight Top-5 finishes on the year. Scheffler is as automatic as they come.

He's at +600 to win the Travelers Championship and gets a 16.7% probability from our model to cash the big check. We're getting a 2.5% edge here, which may not sound significant, but given that his odds should be +500 based on our model, you get a full unit's worth of value. Plus, if you bet this at DraftKings where you can add +300 to any outright winner, you take this all the way out to 6.7% +EV at +900.

Wyndham Clark (+4500)

The newest U.S. Open champion, Wyndham Clark is a frequent flier in this column. He's been almost two entirely different golfers this year; he had one finish higher than a T27 through his first six events of 2023 but has finished lower than T24 just twice in his past nine events. That includes five Top-6 finishes and two outright victories. That's as many wins as Scheffler has in 2023 and they've both come within the past five weeks. He's in as good of a form as any golfer on TOUR.

We're getting ridiculous value on Clark, whose 3.6% chance from our model of an outright victory implies odds of around +2700, which is the range of odds for every golfer with similar probabilities. He's mispriced in the market and with that much of a discrepancy, he may not stay that way for long. This is a bet on form and value that you have to take.

Best Placement Bets for the Travelers Championship

Looking beyond our outright winners, we've got two placement bets to consider. There's not a ton of value in the Top 5 market, but if you feel like hedging one of your winners with a Top 5 pick, keep an eye out for DraftKings' usual 18% profit boosts throughout the weekend.

Wyndham Clark to Finish Top 10 (+400)

For all the same reasons we mentioned above, Wyndham Clark is our best bet for a Top-10 finish. He's cashed his Top-20 placement bet twice for us and we're going right back to him for an even better finish.  He's at a 30% probability on the dot from our model, but his odds of +400 imply a 20% probability. This bet should be priced around +240. Plus, we have a chance to cash our Clark Top 10 *and* get our outright winner back, or preserve a profit in the event he lets a victory slip away at the end.

Rickie Fowler to Finish Top-20 (+165)

Oh, Ricky. With a chance to secure his first-ever major tournament title, Fowler struggled to a +5 on the final round of the U.S. Open to settle for a T5 on the weekend. He held the lead after shooting a major-record 62 in the first round, but couldn't seal the deal. Well, we're not asking him to win it all this week, just secure a Top-20 finish, something he's done in seven of his last eight tournaments, with a lone missed cut at the PGA Championship breaking the streak. DimersBOT gives Fowler a 43.4% chance to place Top 20, which suggests odds of +130, giving us clear value on Fowler to keep his strong form rolling.

Denny McCarthy to Finish Top-20 (+250)

Another favorite placement bet of ours, Denny McCarthy has notched seven such finishes this year as well as three missed cuts. He’s finished inside the Top 15 in each event following a MC and is coming off a second-place finish at The Memorial and just scraped by with a T20 at the U.S. Open. He won't have to contend with the LIV portion of the field this weekend, giving him an easier path to the upper ranks than in a major setting. His 34.2% chance of a Top-20 finish gives us a nice 6% edge in the odds. We've backed his talent on value before and we'll do it again here.

These aren't the only value plays on the board, but our selected ones based on our model's recommendations. Check out our full Predictions for the Travelers Championship to find your favorite plays!
