Free MLB Picks for Friday July 29, 2022

Mets vs. Marlins, 6:40PM ET

The Sandy Alcantara factor can be blamed for the total for this game being set to a tiny 6.5 runs - the equal lowest total we've seen this year, but is it worth taking it on? The Marlins ace has given up 2 ER in each of his last two starts. The Mets don't strikeout a whole lot and have a deep batting lineup that may be able to stretch out the innings and get into that Miami bullpen early. On the other side, Chris Bassitt (7-7, 3.72 ERA) can leak runs with regularity, only shutting out the opposition once in his last ten starts. The over looks ripe.

Phillies vs. Pirates, 7:05PM ET

The Phillies were dominant in last night's series opener in Pittsburgh before some late-inning heroics from the Pirates in the 9th made things interesting. Tonight, more runs are on the menu with two lefties heading to the mound in José Quintana (3-5, 3.70 ERA) and Bailey Falter (0-3, 5.18 ERA). Philly have been averaging almost 5 runs per game against left-handed pitching in their last 10 games and should batter this Pirates defense.

Twins vs. Padres, 9:40PM ET

Blake Snell (2-5, 4.74 ERA) had his best start of the season last time out against the Mets, keeping them scoreless through 5 innings. That's the kind of form the former Cy Young winner is capable of and he finds himself with a great opportunity to keep the momentum rolling against a Twins team who are on a 2-game slide after a midweek jaunt in Milwaukee. The home team has the edge here.
