Which MLB team is hot right now?

The arms of the Tampa Bay Rays staff are keeping the club in playoff contention in the American League. The Rays blew out the Angels last night for their fourth straight victory and eighth in the last 11 games as their team ERA, third-best in the majors, dipped to 3.30.

Since losing to the Yankees 8-7 on Aug. 17, Tampa’s pitching staff has allowed a total of 10 runs in six games. Lefty Shane McClanahan (11-5, 2.29 ERA) gets the nod tonight against Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani & Co.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

It’s only four games, but Minnesota owns the longest current losing streak in baseball after falling to Houston and the mighty ageless wonder Justin Verlander last night. It’s also an important four-game slide, as the Twins are right in the thick of the AL Central race with the Guardians and White Sox.

Making matters worse in Minnesota is star OF Byron Buxton left Monday’s loss to Texas with a hip strain expected to keep him out of action until at least Sept. 2. Another matchup with the Astros isn’t a recipe for success.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Atlanta pitcher Kyle Wright is having a breakout season and could sneak into the Cy Young conversation with a big finish. The 26-year-old righthander entered 2022 with just 70 innings of major league work over four years, with no more than 38 in any season.

So far this year he’s pitched 140 innings and enters this afternoon’s matchup against the Pirates with a record of 15-5 and a 3.14 ERA. He faced Pittsburgh on June 12 and allowed three runs in six innings with seven strikeouts.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Philadelphia 1B Rhys Hoskins is having a pretty nice season with the bat, with 26 homers and 60 RBIs while playing in every game so far after missing 55 games in 2021 when he slashed 27/71.

Lately, however, Hoskins hasn’t been carrying his share of the workload as the Phillies try to sneak into a wild-card spot. Over the past two weeks, Hoskins is batting .186 (11-for-59) with 2 homers, 6 RBIs, 3 runs and 15 strikeouts. With the Reds’ Graham Ashcraft scratched from tonight’s start, keep an eye on who Hoskins will face as he’s due to wake up.
