Which MLB team is hot right now?
There’s still a long way for the Miami Marlins to go, but they’re certainly on the rise heading into the All-Star break despite injuries to two of their biggest weapons — 2B Jazz Chisholm (back) and OF Jorge Soler (pelvis) in addition to closer Anthony Bender (back.)

A 3-1 extra-inning victory at Washington on Monday pushed their winning streak to five games heading into tonight’s matchup with the Angels. Ace Sandy Alcantara (8-3, 1.95 ERA) gets the nod.
Which MLB team is cold right now?
In the midst of a 9-game road swing, the Los Angeles Angels send Noah Syndergaard to the mound against the Marlins hoping to rebound from a three-game sweep at the hands of the Astros.

In Houston, the Angels’ offense produced a total of 4 runs while their pitching staff allowed 21 as they dropped 15 ½ games off the pace and sank to fourth in the AL West. They’ve got their work cut out facing Alcantara, who as the season enters the midway mark is part of the NL Cy Young conversation.
MLB players: Who is in hot form?
Jose Altuve isn’t just setting the table for Houston’s offense, he’s serving plenty of wood to opposing pitchers. While his days as a serious stolen-base threat appear to be over, there’s no debating what he continues to bring to the dish as a feared hitter.
I don’t know how anyone can hate Jose Altuve…

10 year old Jack just had a birthday and held up a sign asking to meet Altuve.

He’s belted 16 home runs, scored 42, and driven in 28 while batting .278. And pitchers still can’t entirely ignore him on the bases as he's swiped 6 bags.
MLB Players: Who is out of form?
Brandon Belt has 172 career homers, including a career-high 29 last season in only 99 games, but he’s been struggling at the plate so far in 2022. Limited by injuries that’s landed him on the IL twice already, Belt (5 HRs, 12 RBIs, .211 average, 46 strikeouts in 137 at-bats) has yet to get the engine cranked and will try his luck against projected Arizona starter Tyler Gilbert on Tuesday night. Belt was given Monday night off until he pinch hit in the ninth.
l still can’t believe the @SFGiants were finally out from under Brandon Belt’s disaster of a contract and voluntarily chose to bring him back.

MLB Players born on July 5
Austin Hays
He turns 27 on Tuesday and Baltimore’s Austin Hays appears well on his way to proving 2021 was no fluke when he went deep 22 times and drove in 71 runs with a livable .256 batting average.

Hays has firmly entrenched himself in the middle of the Orioles’ lineup and has been one of their more consistent bats thus far this season. He has 11 dingers and 45 RBIs, and a favorable matchup tonight against Texas’ Spencer Howard.

Jorge Polanco
Jorge Polanco, who turns 29 today, is already in his ninth major league campaign — all with Minnesota — and recently surpassed 700 games played. The switch-hitting shortstop missed some time earlier this season due to injury and will come nowhere near to matching last year’s career year (33 HRs, 98 RBIs, 11 SBs) but remains a breakout candidate at any time. Chicago’s Michael Kopech will try to play spoiler.

Shohei Ohtani
Reigning AL MVP Shohei Ohtani won’t pitch on his 28th birthday as he’s scheduled to toe the rubber on Thursday. Instead, he’ll look to celebrate against one of the hottest pitchers in the majors in Miami’s Sandy Alcantara. Ohtani had a bit of a slow start this spring but quickly regained form and enters tonight’s game in Miami with 18 homers and 51 RBIs. He went 1-for-5 on his birthday a year ago.
