MLB Betting Insights 09/1/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

Is there any slowing down the Los Angeles Dodgers? Maybe Jacob deGrom can, but they’re 90-39: 45-16 at home and 45-23 on the road. Their run differential is a ridiculous plus-286 and they’ll have the NL West title wrapped up in about 10 days at this rate as they lead San Diego by 18 ½ games.

The Dodgers lead the majors in batting average, runs scored and ERA, and will welcome Clayton Kershaw back to the mound this afternoon against the Mets in New York. The Mets won 2-1 behind deGrom last night but Los Angeles is still 8-3 in its last 11.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

Where would the Miami Marlins be without Cy Young leading candidate Sandy Alcantara? While injuries have derailed the Marlins most of the season, they’re 20 games under .500 and on a four-game slide with series against Atlanta, Philadelphia and the Mets on deck.

Only two teams have scored fewer runs than Miami, which has 8 runs total over the last five games. Alcantara (12-6, 2.13) pitches against the Braves tomorrow night and padding his win column during September might sway any Cy Young voters on the fence.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

On pace for his fourth consecutive 30-homer season (not including the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign), the addition of 3B Eugenio Suarez has proven a solid pickup for Seattle in the wake of Kyle Seager’s retirement.

Suarez went deep against Detroit last night as the Mariners kept their playoff momentum going with a 5-3 victory. Suarez has 25 homers on the year, and over the past two weeks is 13-for-42 (.310 avg.) with 6 long balls and 13 RBIs. He’ll take on Tigers’ lefty Eduardo Rodriguez this afternoon.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Part of a stacked lineup in Toronto, OF/DH Lourdes Gurriel has suffered a power outage all season and is particularly cold lately. After slugging 20 homers in just 84 games in 2019 and crushing 21 last season and driving in 84 runs, he’ll be lucky to reach double digits in dingers in 2022.

He has only 5. Yet he’s hitting a sweet .290. That number was over .300 just a few short weeks ago before he began what’s now an 8-for-53 (.151 avg.) slump. The Jays are in Pittsburgh this weekend.
