MLB Betting Trends Thursday June 23, 2022: Who's Hot, Who's Not and Where You Should Bet

Betting on baseball is all about knowing who's hot and who's not.

Dimers.com contributor Tony Bellissimo tours both camps in the Thursday June 23, 2022 edition of MLB: Who's Hot and Who's Not.

Which MLB team is hot right now?

Toiling at or near the basement of the AL East for the first month and a half of the season, the Boston Red Sox are pointed in the right direction and may never see the wrong side of .500 again this season.

Boston has the third-best batting average in the majors (.258), has won 8 of its last 12 and gets a day off before beginning a three-game set Friday in Cleveland.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

The Chicago Cubs are in danger of falling into the NL Central basement. Considering the Reds opened the season 3-22, that’s quite impressive.

The Cubs have dropped 12 of their last 16 games and are 16 games under .500 heading into Thursday’s afternoon affair in Pittsburgh. Chicago ranked 28th in the league in ERA and 23nd in scoring offense before crushing the Pirates 14-5 last night.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Pittsburgh’s David Bednar is thus far proving 2021 (2.23 ERA, 0.97 WHIP across 60 2/3rds innings) was no fluke. The hard-throwing right-hander has been nothing short of dominant in 26 appearances with a 1.34 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 11 saves.

He’s worked nearly 34 innings and has struck out 46 while yielding a mere 19 hits. Oh, and he’s also 3-1 in four decisions. The Pirates are known for shipping away talent but need to keep Bednar in the fold long term.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

After a career year with Milwaukee last season that saw him crank 29 homers and drive in 86 runs in only 135 games, Avisail Garcia opted out of the final year of his contract with the Brew Crew and signed a four-year deal worth $53 million with the Marlins.

So far, despite cranking a three-run homer Tuesday night, he hasn’t paid off. In 213 at-bats with his new club, Garcia is batting .235 with 5 homers and 20 RBIs and has already hit the IL once.
