MLB Betting Insights 08/29/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

Despite seeing their six-game win streak end yesterday, the Philadelphia Phillies are sitting comfortably in a wild-card spot as August winds down. They lead scuffling Milwaukee, likely the only team capable of knocking them out of the NL playoffs, by four games heading into Monday’s action.

Probably the biggest challenge facing the Phils these days are injuries. Bryce Harper returned over the weekend to play for the first time since June 24, but P Zach Wheeler is out with a forearm strain and key reliever Seranthony Dominguez is sidelined with a triceps issue.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

Losing the likes of Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story wasn’t going to bode well for the future of the Colorado Rockies, and it shows in this year’s record. The Rockies have bottomed out to take hold of the NL West basement as the calendar flips to September.

They sit 19 games under .500 (55-74) after avoiding a sweep in New York with a 1-0 win yesterday — this despite having the second-best team batting average in baseball at .262. On the flip side, Colorado is next-to-last in team ERA at 5.08. It has Monday off before beginning a three-game set in Atlanta.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

The Philadelphia Phillies and their fans have to be hoping 3B Alec Bohm is starting to come into his own a bit. In the same amount of games played as last season, Bohm has surpassed his power numbers (10 homers, 59 RBIs so far in 2022) while boosting his average about 45 points.

He’s sitting at .291 heading into tonight’s game against Arizona and Madison Bumgarner. Over the past week, Bohm is 11-for-28 (.393) with a couple of blasts and 9 RBIs. He’s 0/5 in his career against Bumgarner.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

After striking out in their quest to acquire Luis Castillo, the New York Yankees turned to Plan B and swung a deadline deal with Oakland for Frankie Montas. So far, Montas hasn’t proven to be a major addition.

Since switching coasts, he’s had two decent starts (two earned runs) and two forgettable ones (six earned runs) as his ERA swelled to 3.18 to 3.84. Tonight he returns to California to face a former division rival in the Angels.
