Betting Preview for the 2022 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The 2022 Formula 1 season comes to an end this weekend with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, run at Yas Marina Circuit on the UAE’s Persian Gulf coastline. At 3.45 miles, with several speedy turns, and two generous straights, Yas Marina is perfectly conducive to high-speed overtakes,
and, in general, thrilling racing. This, of course, is among the chief reasons Abu Dhabi has hosted Formula 1’s finale every year since 2014, several of which outings, most notably the legendary, Drivers’ Championship-deciding duel between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in 2021, have produced some of the best Formula 1 racing in history.

Our Dimers.com F1 expert takes a look at the best bets for the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.

What’s at stake?

Quite a few meaningful battles will be decided Sunday, as teams and drivers jockey for the highest possible positions in the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. All eyes, however, will be fixed on Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who enter the weekend tied for second place in the Drivers’ standings.

Perez vs. Leclerc already would have been the most interesting battle in Abu Dhabi, but has taken on a whole new significance following Max Verstappen’s stunning, controversial refusal to allow Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez to finish ahead of him last week, despite Perez having allowed Verstappen to pass him in the Brazilian Grand Prix’s closing laps specifically due to an assurance Verstappen, who has already won the 2022 Drivers’ Championship, would give the place back. As a result, Perez arrives in Abu Dhabi tied with Charles Leclerc, at 290 points apiece, as opposed to in sole possession of second place.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Best Bets

Mercedes outscores Ferrari, but finishes the season in third place. Mercedes’ racecar looked phenomenal last weekend in Brazil, with George Russell securing his maiden F1 victory, and teammate Lewis Hamilton’s second place finish resulting in the German automaker’s first 1-2 result since 2020. Alas, this performance was only good enough to pull Mercedes within 19 points of Ferrari for second place in the Constructors’ Championship. Look for more of the same in Abu Dhabi, with Mercedes outscoring Ferrari, but not by enough to steal a second-place team finish in 2022.

More points for Sebastian Vettel. Four-time Drivers’ Champion Sebastian Vettel will call it a career on Sunday. While Vettel struggled most of the year in an Aston Martin that lacked for pace, he’s looked resurgent in recent outings, finishing in the points in two of the last four races,
including a season-best sixth place finish at the Japanese Grand Prix. Count on Vettel to go out with a bang at Yas Marina Circuit, ending his career with one last points finish.

Perez beats Leclerc, finishes 2022 F1 season in second place. Returning to the battle for second in the Drivers’ Championship, which pits Sergio Perez against Charles Leclerc, we predict Perez to come out on top. Charles Leclerc is likely the more talented driver; however, not only does Perez’ Red Bull enjoys a significant pace advantage, this time, Perez’ Red Bull teammate—who just so happens to be the fastest driver on the grid—has committed his support, which should give the Mexican an edge over the Monegasque in Abu Dhabi.
